Of Montreal Releases 2 New Songs

Of Montreal is busting down the door into 2015 with the ending half of their American tour, rounding out the south until late January.  Their new record, Aureate Gloom, is set to be released in early March by Polyvinyl.

According to Kevin Barnes, of Montreal frontman, in an October interview with Stereogum, this release will be unlike any other, in that it dabbles in many genres and alternate musical stylings. This will be his first release since his 2014 divorce, and the thirteenth album released by Of Montreal. At any rate, it should be interesting to see how Barnes continues to grow through music.

“in a way it reflects the kind of state of mind I was in. One moment feeling, ‘What the fuck have I done?’ and the next moment being, ‘Ah, I feel so liberated!’ and the next moment feeling, ‘I’m the worst person in the world.’ So it’s just reflective of that chaotic state,” said Barnes.

Two songs from the album have been officially released in advance, “Bassem Sabry” and “Empyrean Abbatoir,” track numbers 1 and 3 from Aureate Gloom.

As you can tell, the two songs differ greatly but stand their own ground.

“Bassem Sabry” is the kick off track for the new album and certainly wakes you up with catchy disco-esque guitar and a quick double clap in the chorus that is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The third song on the album, and second to be released, “Empyrean Abbatoir” is playful in nature, starting out with a quick bass-line and soft singing, but gradually becomes more demanding with suspenseful guitars and lyrics of rebellion.

Check out of Montreal and Aureate Gloom, coming to the US on March 3, 2015.
