If Tenacious D and Dolly Parton got drunk and had a baby it would be the musical comedy duo Reformed Whores. Marie Cecile Anderson and Katy Frame talk dirty to us about some fun facts and favorites off their second LP, Don’t Beat Around the Bush: Songs that hit the Spot.
by Marie Cecile Anderson & Katy Frame of Reformed Whores
Katy: So Marie, tell me…
Marie: When was the last time I did it?
Katy: No. I don’t want to know that, but I do want to know what the best part of recording at the Historic RCA studio A was for you?
Marie: Well, being from Nashville, it’s always been a dream of mine to record a country album on Music Row, and to have Hattie B’s Hot Chicken delivered to us!
Marie: What was the highlight for you recording those two days in the studio?
Katy: Getting the chance to collaborate with some of Nashville’s most talented musicians was was pretty dang cool. It was also really neat to hang out with Ben Fold’s pianos that he keeps in the studio. I rubbed (one out on) ‘em for luck!
Marie: I thought the keys were a little sticky…
Katy: Marie, what song do you think your Mom is going to hate the most?
Marie: Definitely the song about finding her vibrator…
Katy: Ah yes, “Hump-A-Lot Bear”. Always a family favorite.
Marie: What’s your favorite song to perform live?
Katy: What’s on the album again? (Editor’s note – we laughed for a solid five minutes.) Oh right. “Online Dating” is my favorite because it’s one of our more challenging songs to play and it gets the crowd crapping! I mean clapping.
Marie: If we could ask one person to join our band who would it be? Mine is David Hasselhoff.
Katy: Good call! That will help us get more German fans. I pick Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ‘cause he could help us carry all our stuff around! Which album that already exists reminds you the most of our upcoming album Don’t Beat Around the Bush: Songs that hit the Spot?
Marie: Um, probably it’s most like our first album Ladies Don’t Spit: Song’s that’ll leave a Good Taste in your Mouth. Ever heard of it?
Katy: Oh yea! That’s one of my favorites.
Katy: Since it’s usually just us on the road, how does it feel to have recorded our album with a full band?
Marie: You mean The Blue Ball Boys? Well, having a full band really kicks it up a notch. When I heard the bow being played on the upright bass for the first time on our song “Whorny” – to me that sound really captured the feeling of sexual frustration that enhances the song. What are your hopes for this album?
Katy: I’m really proud of this album and what we’ve been doing with our “little comedy band”. Not only are our songs funny, but they have a message and empower the people that hear them. That is certainly the feedback we get at our live shows. So I suppose I hope that this album finds it’s way into as many hands as possible. Not only will it make people laugh, but it’ll also make them think and learn and grow…In more ways than one. 😉
