Whirr: Sway

Whirr: Sway

By: Chris Pizzolo

My favorite part about the new Whirr album is probably the  hard pan in the opening measures of the album. I know it is such a minuscule detail, but the ambient tones that creep through the left speaker, allow for the violent strum coming through the right speaker to set the pace for the next 45 minutes of audio bliss.

Whirr’s latest album “Sway” is currently being streamed on Pitchfork, and it’s no wonder why. The band’s dark indie sound will be a home run for new listeners who are looking for a new favorite album of the week. However, the sophomore release  is not some banausic new release that will get tucked away on the digital shelves of music fans. It’s a testament to growth, and exploration.

The band’s latest album draws influence from the 90s grunge days, as well as the “nu-rock” (worst term ever) bands like early incubus, and deftones.

The album was recorded this past February, and was produced by Jack Shirley and Whirr. If you’ve got 40 minutes or so to soak in some great new tunes, check out Whirr’s sophomore release SWAY.

Don’t forget to check out the band live, and pick up the album here.
