Greek vocalist, George Perris, has recently released his third full length English album, No Armor. This 11-track project offers a deeper insight into Perris as the phenomenon that he is. While fully embracing his humanist side, Perris aims to bring relatable music to fans on a global scale.
Speaking on the project Perris shares, “Going back to your roots is a pause to really understand who you are and where you’ve been, so that the path forward is enlightened. These songs have filled a void in my heart over the years and have been my steady companions. Far from being personal to me only, I wanted to show you how universal their emotion is through my country’s colorful sound palette. Stripped of any shield, No Armor is my most honest portrait so far.”
No Armor opens with the dreamy “My Future,” — a sultry start for an emotional journey. Reminiscent of the boy-band ballads of the 90’s, “My Future” plays like a self reflective moment. It focuses on personal growth rather than giving into personal desire. Previously released single ,“I Have A Dream,” continues the project with a romantic harmony. This ABBA cover made heads turn on Perris‘ most recent PBS concert special — George Perris: A Sunset in Greece. No stranger to PBS specials, A Sunset in Greece marked Perris’ third live concert special with the network — intertwining his passion for music and humanitarian work.
At nearly the half way mark we are met with the title track of the record — a Disney fantasy if you will. Given Perris’ success in amassing millions of views and streams collectively, it won’t be long before a major corporation like Disney or Dreamworks seek out Perris’ breathtaking songs to be the focus in their next major motion picture.
While the majority of No Armor presents with soothing imagery of raw emotions, Perris offers a lighter moment with “Now I Can Dance.” An enchanting, uplifting track full of only positivity. It delivers a warm message to a worrying Ma Ma, with reassurance that the time to take a breath and dance is now. As we wind down the record, the final moments for the project come in the form of the previously released cover of West Side Story’s “Somewhere” and original track “When I Am Laid In Earth” featuring The King’s Singers. Greek and overall European influence can be felt heavily throughout the record, but especially within “When I Am Laid In Earth.” It comes as a somber ending that will have fans feeling satisfied with this musical consumption.
Along side his musical endeavors, Perris prides himself in being able to give back to those in need. Perris is an active supporter of the Horatio Alger Association, a nonprofit educational organization that grants scholarships to students facing adversity. In addition to being an ambassador to the Horatio Alger Association, Perris also recently became a UNICEF ambassador focused on addressing child abuse. George Perris takes his talents to actively make the world a better place, one note at a time.
