INTERVIEW: Trevis Releases New Single “Avenue”

Trevis Avenue

We recently sat down with hot talent Trevis to talk about his new single, “Avenue” and his upcoming EP Floor Plan. Check out the convo below.

Play Too Much: Hi Trevis, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us. For those unfamiliar with your work, tell us a bit about your overall aesthetic.

Trevis: Thank YOU so much for having me. I’m a singer, songwriter, and music producer. I like to say I dabble in genres. My sound is pop music with a heavy influence on R&B.

PTM: You just released your latest single “Avenue” — set to be featured on your debut EP Floor Plan. It has a very modern R&B feel to it, and presents itself as a pretty personal track, which becomes especially apparent in the lyrics, “Wanna get through/But dont wanna be in your way/Finding something else to take you off my mind/Just keeps you on my mind.” What was the inspiration behind this track? Is there anyone — whether it’s a producer or musician — that you’re hoping to collaborate with in the future?

T: “Avenue” is one of the songs I’m the proudest of making, especially how the production turned out. “Avenue” came from a vulnerable place. Once I had the guitar down, the melodies and what I wanted to say followed quickly. I had seen this girl for a while, and we were in that awkward stage where I didn’t know what to call us. I kept it mellow and didn’t blow her phone up, but I am a Cancer, and we are very in tune with our emotions. 😂 Staying home and overthinking is the worst thing you can do when you’re in that position. So I went back to my old ways to try and distract myself but ended up feeling more lonely at the club. On the artist and songwriter side, I would love to collaborate with Chris Brown, James Fauntleroy, Jeremih, and PND. On the production side, I’ve always wanted to work with Max Martin and Stargate.

PTM: On a similar note, was there anyone you are especially proud or honored you got to work with on Floor Plan?

T: I’m honored to have worked with all the collaborators on this project. It’s my debut project/EP so it will forever mean the world to me. I’m a perfectionist and very hands-on in everything I do, so I applaud everyone for their patience, support, and dedication to my work. Shoutout Sons of Sonix, Varren Wade, JV the Producer, JNS, Able Heart, Gold Spectacles, Jose Cardoza, and Kes Kross.

PTM: What is your ideal way for fans to absorb this track: is this a late night drive play, relaxing in your room reflecting, or is this what should bring you back to reality when they are leaving the club at 2 am? Or do you envision an entirely different scenario?

T: Depends if you’re listening to the lyrics or feeling the music haha! For me, it’s an incredibly personal song from experience so I’ll be listening to it driving down with my windows down yelling “But I would trade it all for youuuu!” 😂😂😂

PTM: Each single you’ve dropped related to this upcoming EP have had accompanying visualizers. For “Avenue” it’s scenes of a busy night club, dancing patrons, a late night view of the club from the outside — are there plans to drop an official music video, if not for “Avenue” than one of your other previously released singles? Can fans expect a similar feel to their respective visualizers or are you planning on catching fans off guard with the vibe?

T: I was very vocal from the beginning that I wanted all the visualizers for the Floor Plan EP to be animated. I wanted to tie in a story and cohesive look for each release. The visualizers are short and straight to the point to the lyrics behind each record. I love shooting and capturing visuals for records so don’t be surprised if you see a music video in the near future!

PTM: Speaking of your previously released singles, “Avenue” joins “Company For Now” and “All Night.” Did you find any of them to be more challenging to complete than the rest — whether that’s due to the production side of things or the emotional aspect behind it?

T: I love all three singles with all my heart. It’s all about the feelings for me — the vibe and the sound. For instance, “Company For Now” has a daytime barbecue/kick back feel to it. “All Night” has a sunset lounge late summer vibe to it, and “Avenue” is the next day after the girl you met at the barbecue isn’t getting back to you, lol!

PTM: You’ve already released three singles now from your debut EP, what can fans expect from the unreleased tracks? Are there any tracks you’re particularly excited to debut live for fans? Was there an underlying theme you tried to keep for this project?

T: There’s a song on the EP that was one of the first records I really produced by myself. When I played it to the rest of the team and heard them loving it, it gave me all the inspiration and confidence that “I can really do this (music production) too.” It was an amazing feeling. I love the song and can’t wait for the whole EP to be out. It’s the perfect representation of who I am as an artist.

PTM: Floor Plan has been described as “contemporary pop with textured R&B melodies.” Would you say this is indicative of what can be found on your Spotify or Apple Music playlists? Is there an artist or band fans would be surprised you listen to regularly?

T: I guess people would be surprised to know I listen to afrobeat almost more than any other genre. My manager is British/Nigerian, and I’ve known him since I was 11 years old. He put me on to a lot of amazing music, and afrobeat was one of them. When I dropped my debut single “All Night,” one of my favorite Nigerian artists Oxlade commented on it and that was huge to me. I have an afrobeat playlist on my official Spotify page. It’s the s**t!

PTM: Before we wrap up, we have to know, what’s next? Your debut EP Floor Plan is scheduled to be released this August, can fans expect a headlining tour? Perhaps a few festivals?

T: My goal and plan for 2022 is to keep building. You can expect a lot from me as we’re releasing a ton of new music, collaborations and visuals. My favorite thing to do is perform, and I’ll be on a stage near you soon! Constantly posting everything Trevis on my official Instagram @TREVISBRENDMOE.

PTM: Thank you again for taking the time to chat with us about your new single and upcoming EP. Is there anything you’d like to add before we go?

T: Yes! I love yaaa!
