Portland, Oregon-based dream punk band, Glacier Veins, just dropped their debut album The World You Want To See. The album is a collection of lessons learned and lessons shared — accented with mellow shades of pink.
The intended message of the album is to alter the views of listeners’ perspectives of the world. It takes a long minute for most people to change their mindset after experiencing epiphanies. But it was different for lead singer/guitarist Malia Endres because viewing the world differently came easy to her. The World You Want To See was Glacier Veins’ first project that had a completed lineup from beginning to end. Endres said she started working on the album a few years ago as a solo project with the hopes to turn her solo act into a full band that would release the album. In fact, the two songs that were written as a collective group are the bands’ mutual favorites from the LP.
“Everything Glows,” the pop-punk embedded track, gives Endres’ usually calm vocals an added heat in both her cynical delivery and the thumping drum foundation. However, “Another Feeling” circles back to Glacier Veins’ powerful, rocketing harmonies and subdue dream-pop while advancing forward in production and songwriting. Both of these tracks emanate Endres’ initial message of interpretation and attitude.
The lyrics found in “Everything Glows” are “I think that this is what we needed/Now we’re waiting on the world to see it.” So it makes sense when Endres describes the album as “finding your own inspiration through life.” The World You Want To See by Glacier Veins avoids the normal stuttering of a debut album in favor of giving their ever-growing number of listeners even more work to hold onto.
