Words By: Bethany Hildebrandt

High school friends turned pop/funk duo The Attire dropped their debut album Songs About Girls Like You, which drives upbeat funk throughout its entirety. Consisting of Greg Shilling and Stephen Santa Teresa, the duo met in eighth grade and both grew up immersed in music. From the early days of their pop-punk band in college, to essentially releasing their debut album, The Attire showcases what two best friends can accomplish together. Releasing a collection of tracks that bring you party tracks as well as romantic vibes, you won’t want to stop listening.

Kicking off with “Girls Like You,” you’re brought into a universe of pop and soul with unforgettable lyrics that will instantly have you craving a party scene. The duo pulls you into the opening track with their ability to present a desirable vibe with falsetto melodies and a groove that will have you dancing all night. The lyric video interprets text messages of lyrics between the singer and an ex, providing the perfect visual for the vibe of the track. “Girls Like You” is definitely one of those songs that you’ll hear in the club and jump up immediately because you won’t want to miss dancing to your jam. Leading into the previously released single, “Naked” — that went viral on Tik Tok in March 2021 racking up a total of 3.3 million streams. The music video for the track captures the essence of the duo’s overall vibe consisting of sensual perceptions and radiant visuals.

The Attire gave fans a taste of their new record early on in 2020 with “Something In The Water,” which features the vibe of someone who’s crazy in love and how someone can have the love of their life and instantly lose them. “Luxury” joins “Naked” and “Something In The Water” as previously released singles, and is a dream that fantasizes of drinking cold champagne in a penthouse and embraces melodious vocals. The lyric video for “Luxury” shows driving through Hollywood Hills surrounded by palm trees and captures the aesthetic of the track.

Traveling further into the album, “Push It 2 The Limit” incorporates the power someone can hold over you with just one touch. Representing a dance-floor sound with heavy bass and soft chorus whispers, Shilling’s high-pitched vocals will leave you feeling some type of way. With captivating lyrics “Ooh ahh push it to the limit/don’t stop until you get it/yeah you want it now you in it/don’t talk about it live it” you’ll be partying all night long. Slowing things down with a more acoustic track, “Alexa” is the most romantically involved song on this album with its ability to make you feel instant infatuation. A noble pop-duo always makes sure they have a romanticized love song the ladies will fall to their knees for and The Attire represents that with this track. The passionate chorus with simple lyrics like “Somethin’ about Alexa” sways as the track builds and Shilling’s vocals make you feel like you’re caught up in true love.

Songs About Girls Like You ends with their astonishing track “I Would 4 U,” anticipating new beginnings with motivating lyrics and romantic melodies. Finishing the album on a high and positive note by tying it back to “Girls Like You” will leave you feeling at ease and like your party comes to an ecstatic close. After feeling so content with the entirety of Songs About Girls Like You, you’ll be playing this album on repeat indefinitely.
