The singer-songwriter on the rise and multi-instrumentalist Alexander 23 unveiled a new, self-produced single “IDK You Yet.” He wrote the song during self-isolation and had uploaded a demo to Tiktok impulsively – where fans began to demand the official studio version.
“This song is about feeling a void in your heart,” Alexander says about “IDK You Yet.” “I think especially with everything that’s going on in the world right now, people are feeling incomplete. I know I am.”
The acoustic ballad’s melancholic tone fits perfectly well in the single-take lyric video where we see Alexander riding a bike through a neighborhood and tossing red roses paper-boy style. The video is less flashy than his previous projects, mainly because of the restraints being placed on people because of the virus crisis. This emotional, stripped-back gem will make you feel less alone when drowning in your feels.
Despite the current global emergency, Alexander 23 is having a remarkable 2020, and recently shared “Loving You Gets Hard,” “I Hate You So Much” and his remix of Selena Gomez’s “Rare.” He sold out his first-ever headline shows at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles in February, just finished touring with Chelsea Cutler as the supporting act, and will be joining Lauv on tour in August.
Born Alexander Glantz, the Chicago native is the sole creative force behind Alexander 23: he writes, records, and produces all of his music in addition to making the artwork for his singles and merch as well as animating his lyric videos. Writing and recording music since the age of 12, Alexander spent his teenage years refining his musical sensibilities playing in bands. In March 2019, he made his debut with “Dirty AF1s,” which premiered as Apple Music’s Bop of the Week and landed on Spotify’s highly-coveted New Music Friday playlist. Late last fall, he shared his debut EP I’m Sorry I Love You, which finds him tapping into the deeply personal yet relatable pathos that has come to define his music and showcases his penchant for spontaneous songwriting and thoughtful lyricism. To date, he has racked over 56 million streams and more than 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In late 2019, he went on tour with Alec Benjamin, Omar Apollo, and mxmtoon and made his Lollapalooza debut.
