Hip-hop/R&B artist, Drama Relax, has been consistently dropping a number of heart-pounding tracks this year via Rule #1/Geffen/Interscope Records. In April the New York native, Drama Relax released “Karate,” along with an official music video – the laid back track contains lyrics about the exhilarating connection between two people in an envious relationship. The song is a perfect medley of pop and R&B filled with relatable lyrics that seamlessly meld with the smooth, flowing melodies. But Drama Relax wasn’t done dropping singles – in May, he unveiled “Potency” with an official music video to match. The track will most definitely give you a chill vibe, perfect for a drive around town. But fans only had to wait 11 days before Drama Relax revealed his latest track, “Ghost” with yet another complimenting music video. Although the length of the song doesn’t even touch two minutes, this short track is chock full of 808s and melodic vocals.
The most chill of DR’s releases, “Potency”, is a tune that contains synths that echo sounds of lo-fi house music that can relax the mind and body. As the song progresses, calming auto-tuned vocals fill the listener’s ears, bringing an overwhelming sense of relaxation. The video shows Drama singing against a variety of backdrops from a bridge and the woods to a simple backyard and an elegant boat while the downtempo hip-hop track circles around him. The end of the video features Drama Relax on the set of the music video, talking about a couple of children he is working with because “they listen, and they always have a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.”
With a very catchy melody and a deft groove, Drama Relax emanates a great deal of talent in his song “Karate.” On the laid back tune, the artist tells of a thrilling connection between two people, that others may desire in a way that is envious. Between the relatable lyrics and smooth melodies, the track is an excellent demonstration of Drama Relax’s ability in the blending of pop and R&B.
Drama Relax’s R&B tinged hip-hop gives him a distinct sound that’s quickly become a staple to his brand. He takes his name from the life experiences of his rollercoaster-like lifestyle. “Having where I’m from carrying me throughout my music process is really what gives me my motivation right out of recording in my bedroom.” Drama Relax released his debut EP Lonely last year and landed a track on the popular soundtrack of 13 Reasons Why (season 3) – the track “All That” features Chicago artist Jeremih. The undoubtedly catchy song has surpassed 4.3 million streams on Spotify.
