Franco-American, avant-pop duo Faux Real have released their self-titled debut EP which was co-produced by Faux Real with Jay Watson (Tame Impala, Pond, GUM). Faux Real is available now on all streaming services.
“The EP tells the story of the inception of ‘faux realism,’” says Faux Real member Virgil Arndt in a new interview with i-D. “We draw from our own lives and obsessions and fears.”
Noted for their signature 70s/80s glam and post-punk minimalistic live shows, Faux Real performed the entire EP during a virtual release party via Instagram live on May 1st.
At the beginning of April, Faux Real premiered one of the self-titled EP’s standout tracks, “Kindred Spirit,” via PAPER. “Kindred Spirit” is accompanied by an incredibly amusing official video that was filmed in Mexico City, and is streaming now on Faux Real’s official YouTube channel. An ode to fierce affinity defining and dividing Faux Real’s opinion on duality, “Kindred Spirit” serves as an anthem to one’s spirit animal; a hymn on how to best accept and respect ourselves. Directed by Faux Real, the visual sees the duo at grasps with the elements, likening brotherhood to the forces of nature that unite us and positioning the brothers as champions in the fight against insecurity.
Faux Real takes the listener on a journey of faux reality that is drawn from the duo’s personal experiences. “Kindred Spirit” has us up off our seats and dancing, as the track contains a sick, new-wavey, funky groove, falsetto, and cheerful choruses. Brings you right back to the 80s.
Faux Real was first heralded last month by the spellbinding single, “Boss Sweet;” the track is also accompanied by an equally compelling companion video. Faux Real also includes the acclaimed single, “Second Sweat,” joined by its own creatively choreographed and self-directed companion video, both streaming on their official YouTube channel.
