EP REVIEW: TikTok’s Viral Sensation Abigail Barlow Drops Debut EP ‘ABIGAIL’

Abigail Barlow TikTok EP

Abigail Barlow EpTwo weeks, our attention was encapsulated by the alluring, Abigail Barlow on TikTok – so much so that she became our first official TikTok Tuesday feature. Abigail came from Alabama but always knew she was meant to be surrounded by bright lights and skyscrapers – after moving to LA at 18 she set her mind to her passion and began working on her music career. However, a bad relationship distracted our young soulful pop-star – but lucky for us [and Abigail] that relationship didn’t last which meant she could pick up her pen and paper and fulfill her density of being a singer/songwriter. Today, her new EP, Abigail, has officially dropped – and we couldn’t be more excited to dive headfirst into this killer collection of tracks.

Her EP opens with a song that essentially started it all – and that caught the attention of another famed singer, Meghan Trainor. Trust Issues,  came to light in just a mere 5 minutes – and when your mind is flooded with that many emotions, thoughts, and talents, it’s easy to understand why the track was desperate to come out so quickly. It went instantly viral across the platform of TikTok which garnered the attention of Grammy award winner – Meghan Trainor. After the two songstresses got together to fully collab on the track, the unfortunate Corona Virus hit, putting a pause on all gatherings -including studio sessions. But Abigail kept creating – she fully immersed herself in her craft and now we finally get to hear Trust Issues  in full. The bouncy pop track immediately sucks you in and gets you moving – by the end you feel fully empowered, ready to launch yourself into the rest of this stellar EP.

Phantom Feelings  follows, bringing a deep intensity with a darker presence. The track speaks on the internal battle you face are you’re in the process of getting over someone – are you just lonely or do you actually miss them? Things soften as we are greeted with If I Saw You Today.  The ballad is backed by a gentle piano as Barlow’s vocals glisten over the music. As we are greeted by the opposing power vocals of Irish singer/songwriter, Oisín, If I Saw You Today  sits as a beautiful collaboration amongst the rising stars. The duo tells two halves of the same heartbreaking story – an open-ended letter to a partner you had to say goodbye to but perhaps never got that final closure with.

After an emotional goodbye full of ‘what if’s’, we get back to feeling ‘ok’ with Nobody Cares.  The track comes as a reminder for all, that regardless if a song is about a certain someone – that person isn’t the star here, the artist is. Across the genres of music, some tend to focus on who the song could possibly be about – but they forget that the subject of a song is just a little blip in time that becomes as insignificant as your preferred brand of floss. Our focus should be – as always – the creator of these overly relatable tracks. In an early morning TikTok, Abigail showed off her latest track with the on-screen caption reading, @ Voldemort thanks for breaking my heart [cause] I wrote a Banger.

Abigail closes with Barlow’s previously release singles, Jet Black Hearts  and Heartbreak HotelJet Black Hearts  comes off as a modern-day take on the tale of Alice In Wonderland’s The Red Queen. As you enter the dating world and see the games that some people thrive on playing – suddenly The Red Queen’s mantra of off with their heads  doesn’t sound so crazy and becomes a logical anthem for the fed up. Meanwhile, at the Heartbreak Hotel,  the guests are ready to check out. This electric pop track closes out this gorgeous EP – reminding all its listeners that those people that stress you out are not worth the headaches but especially the heartbreak.

In less than 4 hours after it’s release Abigail Barlow’s Abigail EP hit #16 on the iTunes Pop Charts – and it’s only going up from there honey. With locals reminiscent of Ariana Grande and Jojo – Abigail comes in with a soulfulness that instantly makes her a unique addition to the genre. While the unnamed TikTok track that first caught our attention didn’t quite make the cut in time for the EP’s release – we couldn’t be happier for this talented rising star who is shattering glass ceilings all around.
