EVENT: Lizzie & The Makers To Play Album Release Show In NYC

Celebrating the release of ‘Dear Onda Wahl’ at The Cutting Room Nov. 10

Lizzie & The Makers Mojo hand
Words by: Julia Poholek

On November 10th, blues-rock group Lizzie & The Makers will take to the stage at The Cutting Room in downtown Manhattan to launch the release of their sophomore album, Dear Onda Wahl. Laden with gritty vocals and instrumentals coupled with otherworldly imagery, this album serves up a novel listening experience that begs to be accentuated through live performance.

Guitarist Greg McMullen says of the album, “Definitely the stuff has been written for performance,” with powerhouse frontwoman Lizzie Edwards adding, “We’re more of a live band than necessarily a band that was overproduced or was dependent on sounds created in the studio.” Bringing even more excitement to this live factor, the band will be joined onstage by special guest, Reeves Gabrels, guitarist for The Cure and a co-producer on Dear Onda Wahl. You can bet that he’ll be adding his own personal flame to the untamed fire that is Lizzie & The Makers.

The dynamic tone of the album is evidenced in the song “Mojo Hand,” a seven and a half minute track that closes out the album with a bang. This is a track that sneaks up on you – soft twangs of guitar and reverb fade in, slowly taking form before light hi-hat drumming comes in. Lizzie croons softly through the opening lines, like a siren placing you under her spell. Then when you least expect it, her rich vocals belt out a line that pierces through you and sets your heart in motion, thumping along with the heaviness that ensues. A staggered mix of airy vocals and grounded interludes will keep you rocking and rolling all the way through, leading you out of the album having experienced a range of sensations.

November 10th’s audience will see a tightly rehearsed band that has fine-tuned their identity into something more lush and ethereal than the thought of blues-rock suggests. Let’s see if The Cutting Room stays standing – this group just might tear the roof off the place, and you’ll want to be there when it happens.
