To say the music world has been heavily rocked this year is a bit of an understatement. With the global pandemic effectively cancelling any musical gathering for [presumably] the rest of the year, artists have been becoming more creative in how they lift the spirits of their fans – whether it be through exclusive merch to benefit their respected crews who are out of a job, reimagining their singles, holding exclusive live streams or releasing a quarantine inspired EP…or if you’re, Silverstein – all of the above.
Earlier this Silverstein dropped their tenth studio album, A Beautiful Place To Drown, and were set to embark on a cross-country 20-year anniversary tour across the US and parts of Canada. However, the universe had other plans for these scene icons. With the rapid spread of Covid-19, Silverstein [like many others] were forced to postpone the tour until 2021, which not only disappointed fans but meant their beloved crew was out of a job. In an effort to help – Silverstein designed a limited edition ‘Quaranstein’ T-shirt that featured their iconic robot off their debut album, When Broken Is Easily Fixed, that sprouted the words “When corona is easily fixed…#StayTheFuckHome” – with all proceeds directly benefitting their crew.
But what fun is new merch without a little music to jam out to while you rock the new threads? In May Silverstein dropped a unique concert/documentary video – featuring a brief look inside the band member’s lives in quarantine before each playing their respected parts in 5 reimagined tracks. But having members of Silverstein rock out to some of their most well-known discography in different parts of their homes isn’t quite enough for this legendary band – a special guest appearance by Beartooth’s frontman, Caleb Shomo on “Burn It Down” gave fans a much-needed jolt in how much they’ve been missing the guys of Silverstein and all their antics.
Fans quickly demanded a physical collection of their remastered favorites – thus creating the limited edition Quaranstein EP, which was available until 7/1 exclusively on Bandcamp with 100% proceeds donated to NAACP and Black Legal Action Centre. The EP featured all 5 of the songs performed in their concert doc -“Smashed Into Pieces”, “Smile In Your Sleep”, “The Afterglow”, “Bad Habits” and “Burn It Down ft. Caleb Shomo“.
But it’s been 20 years since the start of Silverstein and they can’t just wait until next year to celebrate with fans – so Silverstein has announced a Next Live Livestream Event plus the release of an alternate version of their song “Where Are You“. When discussing the new version of the track plus the upcoming live stream, frontman, Shane Told, had this to say, “Despite not being a single ‘Where Are You’ was one of our favorite tracks on A Beautiful Place To Drown. We decided to put a different spin on it and show how its composition can shine both as a heavy, riffy jam, and also as a chill, reflective arrangement. And after such great feedback from Quaranstein, recorded live from our homes, we wanted to plan something special when it was finally safe for the five of us to get together. So here is a ‘Next Level’ livestream, using the best sound and video equipment available to capture the ultimate performance of our classic songs. And get ready for some surprises, this will be unlike any live stream you’ve seen before. ”
Tickets for the live stream are available now for the low price of $10 and are linked below. This all happens Sunday, July 19 with a portion of proceeds going towards NIVA [Nation Independent Venue Association]! This live stream is going to be one for the books so don’t miss out!
