Australian singer/songwriter Lili Kendall presented her newest music video for “i am my own,” on March 5. Kendall collaborated with Caroline Iaffaldano, a feminist filmmaker/director. The highly cinematic video revels in absurdity following Lili through a trilogy of intergalactic journeys.

Iaffaldano creates art that challenges the status quo and untangles specific standards of society that apply to women. In the video for “i am my own,” Lili journeys through the depths of outer space. Along the way she encounters love in many different ways, eventually finding the form of love in its truest shape and expansion within herself. “Regardless of the planet or galaxy she ends up in, Lili lands in her own body and is able to receive herself in her limitless capacity she calls home,” Iaffaldano stated.

Her move from Australia to Los Angeles, and trying to find comfort in a time of change and uncertainty, Lili wrote: “i am my own.” She realized she can find her home, temple, safe space, and familiar feeling inside of herself through self-realization. The song preaches love and acceptance inside of oneself.
