Rising indie-pop band Magdalena Bay released their latest track “Airplane,” lifted from their upcoming EP A Little Rhythm and a Wicked Feeling due out March 13. The track sparkles with the bittersweet heartbreak of leaving someone who is holding you back, as your life lifts its wheels from the runway, launching into new opportunities and experiences.
“Airplane” starts with a slow synth, but continues to build into a galaxy-like electro-pop experience. Lead singer Mica Tenenbaum’s delicate vocals anchor the song over the composited dance production. The duo (Tenenbaum and producer Matthew Lewin) aim to make hip-swinging music, but with a solemn undertone, which creates an original pop sound with some depth.
In the accompanying video, Magdalena Bay created an eccentric scene with a green-screened brilliance with planes, clouds, and sky-scenes, while Tenenbaum casually rocks a business suit.
The duo are set to hit the road in support of Yumi Zouma, for the month of March, starting in Washington DC on 3/12 at DC9; and then they are supporting Kero Kero Bonito on their tour starting 4/27 in Atlanta at Georgia Theater.
