MAX unveiled his latest single “Where Am I At” Friday, February 28. The emotional track lifted from his anticipated album Colour Vision is due out May 22. “Where Am I At” is about the moment you realize you will never hug, never talk with, never say I love you to someone that means everything to you. It’s the moment you know they’re truly gone, and all that’s left of them is what you remember. I didn’t know who I was anymore, knowing I’d never be able to see her again,” MAX described.
MAX’ s fierce delicate delivery paired with mounting vocals takes the artist into new passionate territory compared to previous releases. The toe-tapping pop bop has been awarded millions of streams since its release. The pleading chorus, “Where am I at these days / Now that you’re gone? / Where am I at these days / When you don’t come home?” reveals the distress after a heartbreak, leaving listeners bathing in heartache and yearning for that type of love again.
The video is entirely MAX singing, his face covered in a shadow, the background a bright yellow, his face remaining blank and emotionless. The visuals can be interpreted as the confusion and numbness of being lost without the love you once had. Once that love is gone, you’re stuck in the potential energy of the routine feeling, mixed with the hurt and confusion of what once was.
