glimmers shares an acoustic version of “Not Good At Goodbyes.” The band reimagines the track as an emo ballad, ringing just in time for Valentine’s day. The single comes from their upcoming EP Worlds Apart, due April 23, 2021.
This acoustic reimagination trades the original version’s climactic breakdown for a softer approach. “Not Good At Goodbyes – Acoustic” features sweet sounding guitars, and reverberated vocals by glimmers frontwoman Maggie Schneider. Additionally, Nick Pena from lostbody returns as a guest feature.
“In honor of Valentine’s Day, we decided to release an acoustic version of our latest single ‘Not Good at Goodbyes.’ When we were first producing this song, we thought this track could go one of two ways: a full band anthem or an emo acoustic ballad. Since I wrote the song on my acoustic guitar in my bedroom, we thought it would be fun to show both sides of this story. We really hope people connect with it!” The reimagination features a chorus of rejoices with lovely twinkling piano melodies. To polish it up, the band stacks Schneider’s vocal parts to add another layer of harmonious depth. A much different take from the original’s gritty-toned guitar parts and splashing drum beats. Both versions show the duality of the emo anthem, and flex the band’s sonic capabilities.
The original single was released alongside a cinematic music video. “Not Good At Goodbyes” aims to tell the tale of a couple, and the highs and lows of their relationship. The track would sound right at home in a coming-of-age movie, telling the story of a relationship on the brink of collapse. Schneider speaks on the release, “We decided to create a music video for each of the songs to follow this story, with each piece connecting to each other as the next episode of the relationship. Altogether, all five music videos create a short film, inspired by our favorite 90s and 2000s romance movies.”
The Atlanta-based rock band formed in early 2020. The 5-piece played music together since the summer of 2019, and the members met separately but all through mutual friends. glimmers formed as the backing band of Atlanta artist Maggie Schneider. Fortunately, what started as a backing band quickly became a family. glimmers cites their influences in the melodic sounds of Mayday Parade, the personal lyrics of All Time Low and the songwriting of Julia Michaels.
Their debut EP Cluttered Heart introduced their standout singles like “Don’t Tell Me” and “For Me It’s You”. After just 5 months of being a band, “Cluttered Heart” reached 95,000 total streams. The EP even caught the attention of outlets like Substream Magazine, idobi Radio, and Hot Topic.
