7evin7ins comes from humble beginnings, practicing his flow with his friends when he was younger, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make his way to the top. In fact, he’s destined for it. He’s gradually moving along the path, recently releasing a vulnerable, hard-hitting track in “Let Go” and drawing inspiration from hip-hop artists like Juice Wrld. Soon, 7evin7ins will be just as well-known and adored. We earned the chance to talk to 7evin7ins about “Let Go” and his latest single “I.H.M.F (i hate my friends)” on top of what motivates him to create and what the future holds for this young talent.

Play Too Much: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us! Let’s go all the way back: You used to do freestyle sessions with your friends to practice your flow. What would you say would be the most valuable thing you learned from then to now?
7evin7ins: Since those days I’d say my music has definitely evolved! I went from messing around freestyling, and not thinking much of it to music actually being something I do full time. It’s so weird to think about sometimes, but I really fell in love with it. I’d say the biggest thing I’ve learned since then is being genuine and truly being yourself takes you furthest.
PTM: What exactly happened on that day you earned the opportunity to record in a studio for the first time and everything changed?
7evin7ins: It was so spontaneous. I always loved music, but I’d never thought about actually making it until one of my friends pushed me to do it. I decided if I was going to do it, I’d go all in. Therefore, I found a local studio and decided to start there. Ironically those people I met at that studio have been working with me since that day almost 3 years ago.
PTM: Like other artists in the scene, stage names have always been a popular way in creating a brand for your music  — How did you come up with your stage name?
7evin7ins: To be honest, this story isn’t anything crazy! I used to play a lot of video games growing up. There was a gaming forum called seven sins. I had created a SoundCloud profile for listening purposes, and based the user name off that. Tweaked the spelling and came up with 7evin7ins. When I decided to start making music I just kept it!
PTM: You find your muse in hip-hop artists like XXXTentacion, Lil Peep and Juice Wrld. What about these three drives you to create?
7evin7ins: All three of these artists have influenced me tremendously. The biggest factor for this is why they make music. They’ve taught me as an artist to do it for the right reasons. This being making an impact on kids struggling with mental health. My purpose is to do the same. The reason why I love doing what I do so much is because music is such a healthy coping mechanism. I write music to better my mental health, and I release music that people can listen to, to help theirs. It’s the most beautiful part of creating art.
PTM: Did you always plan on fusing hip-hop and punk in your music? Are there any particular artists within those genres you’d love to collab with?
7evin7ins: As I was saying earlier, my sound has definitely evolved since I started. I never anticipated this, but pop punk especially has always influenced me. Therefore, it just felt right. This transition was the best thing that ever happened to me as an artist, because now I’m making music that feels honest. If there was any artist I could work with right now it would be MGK. His genre transition was absolutely inspirational to me.
PTM: Let’s talk about your single, Let Go featuring 916frosty. You said the track is extra special to you because it tackles topics you had been dealing with all the time. What was it like to lay everything on the line and can you speak a bit about the creative process?
7evin7ins: This song was the start of me opening up more in my lyrics. I’ve never really spilled emotions on paper like I did in the verse of that song, and that’s what makes it so special. My creative process always start with finding a concept, and I’m glad I was able to dig deep on this one.
PTM: How did you come to link up with 916frosty? What was it like working with him?
7evin7ins: Via Instagram! Very dope & genuine kid, also super talented.
PTM: You have an new single, “I.H.M.F (i hate my friends),” which is set to drop April 30. Is there anything you can reveal about it?
7evin7ins: Really excited about this one! The fans are really pumped too! I wrote this song about the fake people we surround ourselves with. I’m sure many people can relate to that. I don’t actually hate my friends (fyi guys) but there are some people who used to be my friends that are no longer present in my life. They inspired this one for sure.
PTM: Overall, what do you hope fans will take away from your music?
7evin7ins: It’s okay to feel lost. Not having a sense of direction is nothing to be ashamed about. We all find our path in life, and whichever one you choose is the one that was meant for you. I love you guys 4L. You’re not alone.
PTM: As the music world begins to open up a bit more this year, do you have any plans for live shows or perhaps a “drive-in” experience? What can fans expect from one of your live shows?
7evin7ins: The second shows come back, I’m getting on the road. I miss the feeling of being on stage. I don’t have anything scheduled now, but don’t be surprised if some dates pop up in the near future!
PTM: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us. We are so stoked for your next release — “I.H.M.F (i hate my friends)” — Are there any final thoughts you’d like to share before we go?
7evin7ins: Appreciate you guys having me! After this one drops be ready for the next. They continue to get better and better [I don’t know] how.
