Up and coming indie-rock artist Michigander is living on the release of his new EP, Everything Will Be OK Eventually. With this being his 3rd EP release, Michigander is no rookie and his music is better than ever. Putting life and high spirits into his music, the Michigan native is giving us all something to sing out loud to. A couple of the songs on the EP have gained some significant recognition from SiriusXM Radio Stations such as Alt Nation and The Spectrum. His current radio hit, “Let Down,” currently sits at spot number 6 on the Triple A radio charts.

We got the opportunity to talk with the singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist Jason Singer [Michigander] to hear his personal take on the release of his newest EP, Everything Will Be OK Eventually

Play Too Much: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today. For those unfamiliar with your work, would you mind introducing yourself and telling us a little about your music?
Michigander: My name is Jason Singer, I’m from Midland, MI. [I] recently moved to Detroit, and I make alt-rock music under the name ‘Michigander‘.
PTM: Did you know from a young age that music was your passion, or did you discover it later in life?
M: Definitely, music was always in the background in everything I ever did. I was always listening to my portable CD player as a kid, always fiddling around on a guitar or piano whenever I could.
PTM: Now for some exciting news! Let’s talk about the release of your new EP, Everything Will Be Ok Eventually. How are you feeling about it?
M: I feel so relieved that it’s finally out in the world. I’ve been working on this EP for over a year and it’s so exciting that people can finally hear these songs.
PTM: How long have you been working towards the completion of this project? What was the writing process like?
M: Started really writing these songs while I was on tour with Pete Yorn at the end of 2019. But recording took a lot longer because of the lockdowns. This was the first time I had this much time to work on something and I think it really shows.
PTM: I’d love to talk about your radio hit single, “Let Down.” I’ve really gravitated towards that song while listening to the EP. I think the song has a highly relatable message about the fears that so many people carry when it comes to finding love and trying to put your best self forward. The music video was great as well. What made you choose this song to be one of your singles?
M: I think the reason this song came out first is because it’s a track that I think perfectly captures what music I want to make as ‘Michigander‘. The relatable message, the song structure, everything about it is something I am proud of.
PTM: What would you say inspired you the most in the writing for this project?
M: I wrote most of these songs thinking that they would be played at a festival at some point. I’m wildly inspired by big shows — Stadium shows. I think that anthemic sound is something that I always gravitate towards. I like to think and dream big while creating.
PTM: If you had to choose one song off this EP that resonates with you most which one would it be and why? What’s the story behind the song?
M: Probably “Together.” I think that song is such a perfect way to narrate how I felt during 2020. I wrote it back in March of last year when things started to get weird. I found solace in the fact that the whole world was ‘in it’ together. We all had to face this thing together. And still are. But it was nice to know I wasn’t alone.
PTM: As an artist, what is something that you hope your fans take from your music? What is your main goal in the creation of your music for your fans?
M: I hope when people listen back to these songs 5 or 10 years from now, they remember the times where the world was beginning to return to normal. I want this EP to be the soundtrack of healing.
PTM: I know that you’re an independent artist. Have you ever considered signing or do you have plans to navigate the independent circuit more?
M: I actually am with a small label and have a team with C3 Records. It’s nice to not be doing this of all alone anymore.
PTM: Everything has been crazy with the pandemic. Getting out to perform live has been really difficult- do you have any future plans for livestreams, or any live performances scheduled in the spring and summer? What can fans expect at one of your shows?
M: I think everything is still up in the air some, but it’s feeling like we’re going to be back at playing shows again by the end of the year. We did get to play a streamed release show for the EP from El Club in Detroit. That was a nice reminder of how amazing it feels to play this music live. I can’t wait to have a real-life audience for it soon.
PTM: This was great getting to talk to you today! Anything else you’d like to mention before we wrap up the interview?
M: I think that’s it. Thanks for the questions!
