Aly & AJ have released “Symptom of Your Touch,” the latest single from their forthcoming album, a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun, due out May 7. This synth-driven track explores how relationships can change thought processes — and how, even though they might not be good for you, you’ll do anything to maintain them.
Aly lifts the curtains to start the show, divulging her thought process that she’s held for as long as she can remember now while she tries to get over her ex. The subtle synths work their way up to a disco-infused dance floor as AJ harmonizes with her to emphasize the point that if her ex were to invite her over to say her piece, she wouldn’t be able to resist their entrancing aura.
The chorus breaks out into a series of upbeat “oohs,” which disclose the warm feeling she gets from just thinking about being with her ex again. The bridge brings strings to the forefront as the sisters take a deep dive into their mindset, trying to figure out why they can’t make the best decision for themselves when it comes to love. The track ends with the question unanswered, leaving listeners to wonder if the solution can be found within the walls of the forthcoming album.
Of the upcoming album, Aly & AJ share: “There’s nothing more satisfying than sitting in a room asking the universe to humbly bring you the bones of a song. Especially when you have a creative genius as your producer (Yves Rothman) constantly encouraging you to not jump ship, and to trust the process. We started conversations around making a full album together way back in early 2019, but it wasn’t until a writing trip in the fall that the record started to take shape. There were many discussions over the sound of this record, the overall tone, and what we wanted to accomplish. Yves made us feel free to be exactly who we were. That we needed to show people that we were two American girls who grew up in the Valley in LA that intend on putting out positive, inspirational, but also revealing and honest writing into the world.”
“Symptom of Your Touch” is the follow-up to the show-stopping “Pretty Places“ and “Listen!!!” The sisters have been back on the rise ever since their anthemic “Potential Breakup Song” made a comeback, which they followed up with an explicit rerelease. When the new album drops on May 7, the sisters will be performing a virtual concert that night as well as holding a town hall the following day. Tickets are already available for purchase.
