Brad Sucks is back with his newest release, “In It To Win It” featuring Jason Lytle. It’s the first song off the upcoming record, A New Low In Hi-Fi. Brad shares details about the album, and explains where he’s been since his last project.
“In It To Win It” is a chilled out indie pop track. Instrumentally, it chimes with a snappy beat, and keys, synths and various electronic elements to keep a light vibe. Brad looks back on his feelings regarding his career in his honest and very transparent lyricism. “Maybe you’ll never be famous, and your voice is never gonna be heard,” Brad sings in a monotonous tone reflective of his emotions. He says the track is, “about giving up on your dreams. The verses are about my own struggles with staying on track with my music and my career, feeling worthy, feeling like success is attainable. The choruses are supposed to be blunt but ultimately kind self-talk. Like someone expressing concern but calling your behavior out for what it is.”
Jason Lytle of Granddaddy joins Brad on the track, the two share similar experiences with fame, making for a fitting collaboration. Brad has admired Lytle’s work over the years. Upon writing “In It To Win It,” Brad and Jason connected over Twitter and he shared the track, ultimately leading to the collaboration. Brad shares, “I’m a huge fan of his and he also famously struggled with success, gave up on Grandaddy at its peak and peaced out to live in the mountains in Montana for a decade or so but has recently made a comeback. I’ve thought about him often through the ups and downs of my own career and having him sing the chorus on this, ostensibly telling me not to give up is really big for me!”
Brad Sucks is the moniker of Brad Turcotte, a Canadian electronic-tinged indie rock artist. His humble beginnings are from releasing home-recorded music online in the 2000’s. Brad writes instrumentally light pop-rock tracks that carry blunt and sometimes downer, lyrics. He speaks on depression and anxiety by adding a humorous and charming twist. He released files to his songs, allowing people to remix his work, and offering a pay-what-you-can system for releasing his music. Brad released three records, I Don’t Know What I’m Doing, Dropping Out Of School, and Guess Who’s a Mess. He took a break from music after his third record in 2021, only releasing “Lonely” which was featured on show, Bee and PuppyCat.
Brad Sucks returns this year with his full-length album, A New Low in Hi-Fi. It’s been nearly a decade since his last album — but this next chapter will highlight a lot of what life has been like. Amazingly, he garnered the support of fans by crowdfunding the physical release of the record. Brad Sucks has some creative collaboration with “In It to Win It” feat. Jason Lytle of the Grandaddy, moody melodies in “A Little Distance”, and psychedelic vibes with Fun Guy. A New Low in Hi-Fi will be released in June 2021.
