Country singer Chase Bryant is putting us in our feels with his newest single, “High, Drunk and Heartbroke.” The song is exactly what it sounds like, an anthem for those going through a dark period of heartbreak. With the release of this single, Bryant has also announced that his debut album will be coming out in mid July of this year. The country singer has been putting out music since 2014 when he released his first 5 track Self Titled EP. Off that album was his single, “Little Bit of You” — which is still his highest streamed song on Spotify to date. In the years leading up to 20201, Chase has continued to follow his musical path within the country genre by releasing 3 singles and 2 Christmas songs.
Recorded in one take, “High, Drunk and Heartbroke,” starts out smooth with the gentle strumming of the acoustic guitar. With grittiness in his voice and the essence of a true male country vocalist, Chase sings, “This pain ain’t no joke/Since that’s all she wrote/I’m getting high, drunk and Heartbroke,”. The song is reminiscent in sound in regards to country super star, Chris Stapleton. Both Stapleton and Bryant share a similar vocal tone and slow jam style of playing. What makes this song stand out from other heartbreak songs is how honest Chase is with his lyrics. It’s not easy for people to admit how they cope with sadness and heartbreak in life. Yet, Bryant defies the secrecy standards and comes right out saying exactly what it is that he does.
Chase and his guitarist Charlie Sexton both nailed their respected riffs throughout the single. The electric guitar is full through-and-through, giving off classic country rocks vibes. There’s ease in the wailing of the guitar solos layered with the strumming of the crisp sounding acoustic guitar. Overall, this song is a classic, rich country jam and is most defiantly fit for a Nashville Honky Tonk kinda night!
