Cold Moon have released “Lost,” the latest single from their forthcoming debut album, What’s The Rush, due out May 7 via Pure Noise Records. Comprised of prominent musicians who are experimenting outside of what they’re known for, the band digs deeper into an innovative soft rock sound that is bound to change the landscape of music for good.
Gentle taps of drumsticks kick off the track, leading into a pack of hums as a smooth guitar glides over the immediate feel-good vibes. A ruthless yet calming bass pops throughout each of Jack Sullivan’s syllables as he confesses that he’s going to seclude himself for a while, get away from the madness of the world. Despite the dark themes, the chorus allocates summer-y feelings of contentment and free spirits. Harmonies float all throughout the scene as Sullivan reveals he doesn’t remember the person he was or how he’s become so dispirited as of late.
After getting rid of everything that reminds him of the unfamiliar face that now stares back at him in the mirror every morning via a yard sale, he sets off to rediscover his purpose in life. In the bridge, the feelings of pure elation toward his incoming adventure come to life, as immaculate guitars coast alongside steady drums that resemble a happy, healthy heartbeat. Sullivan thinks ahead to what he’ll find on his journey: a sense of renewal, a new appreciation for life and a refreshing story to tell when he gets back.
Of the upcoming album, bassist Will Levy shares: “We recorded 9 songs over 13 or 14 months. There really was no rush for us and we knew that when we felt ready, everything would fall into place.”
Cold Moon will inevitably be as big as the other bands their members are or have once worked with. Levy continues to go ham on his bass with pop-punk favorite The Story So Far, and drummer Mike Ambrose once rocked the house with hardcore mainstay Set Your Goals. Because of this, people may confine them to the boundaries of what their other bands have set, but with Cold Moon, they should see how versatile and worthwhile they truly are. If that point hasn’t come across yet, it will upon the release of What’s The Rush in about a week’s time.
