For anyone within the pop-punk scene, you may be familiar with Maggie Schneider. Her captivating vocal and reimagined covers of your favorite artists made her an instant hit within the community. She’s had a steady solo career performing at across the US opening for well-known acts like William Ryan Key [Formerly of Yellowcard] and Sleep On It – to even get the chance to fulfill her teenage dream of playing on The Vans Warped Tour during its final cross country tour [Atlanta date]. Now, she’s welcoming her new product, Glimmers, into the spotlight with their debut single “Don’t Tell Me.”
Glimmers is a full band ensemble that will not only elevate Maggie in her music but create an entirely new entity all its own to be praised. Joining Maggie in this next chapter in her career is Jeremy [drums], Ari [bass] Alex D [guitar], and Alex Norrell [guitar]. After establishing introductions for nearly a week it was time to drop some tunes. Yesterday, Glimmers debut their first single, “Don’t Tell Me” via Common Ground Collective – and its everything we never knew we needed. The delicate piano keys bring in the listener before being greeted by the smooth, elegant voice of Maggie that gleefully fills the airwaves. This pop-punk ballad is filled with blasts of sharp vocal moments and laced with a message all too relatable. “Don’t tell me who to be/I was young and naive, just past 17/I’ve thought about us and I really believe/I’m done with being anyone else but me,” – the lyrics radiate personal growth, focusing on that moment in your life when you suddenly stop and see everything around you clearly for the first time. Its that moment everyone has been through when transitioning from an adolescent into a proper young adult and realizing the type of full-grown adult you want to become. You come to the self-realization that you’re going to have to make some changes and most of them are going to be hard, but necessary.
“Don’t Tell Me” lifts like a power ballad while delivering chills of an instant hit. With those around Maggie always knowing something bigger lived deep inside just waiting to burst through the seams – Glimmers feels like that proper pin that’s popped bubble she’s been dying to breakthrough. While most would say this collective of young artists shines bright, they’ll be quick to tell you, “No, we Glimmer”.
