Dayton, Ohio American rock band Hawthorne Heights, formerly A Day in the Life, has freed the specifications of their upcoming project The Rain Just Follows Me out September 10th, 2021 via Pure Noise Records. Composed of JT Woodruff [vocals, guitar], Mark McMillon [guitar, vocals], Matt Ridenour [bass, vocals], and Chris Popadak [drums], the single “The Rain Just Follows Me” precedes the release of the September collection.

“The Rain Just Follows Me” consolidates emotive motifs, and a feisty, underground sonic configuration. The single inaugurates with an ascending merge of abundant strings that transitions into a picked-fretwork. At a mere twenty seconds in, vocalist Woodruff’s vocal beneficence cuts over the musical apparatus. Heavy electric is played at breakneck speed and is married to gassed-up drumming that remains homogeneous throughout. Woodruff confesses his battle with an identity crisis long-distance strain from his wife and daughter.

Vocalist JT Woodruff shares about the title track, “I really wanted to name this album after those lyrics, ‘The Rain Just Follows Me.’ It perfectly described what I’ve been going through. During the day, everything seems totally fine, but when I lay down and turn out the lights, my world comes crashing down. If this happens on tour or at home, I usually just think of the coast. I think of the way I feel, watching pelicans on the pier. And usually, everything will stabilize, but for some reason, nothing was working. When you’re gone for months out of the year, it starts to feel normal. Your entire family and circle of friends have to rearrange their lives to stay connected to yours. And as much as this seems like a woe is me, touring band sob story, it really isn’t about that at all. It’s about how our society has taught us to work ourselves to exhaustion, and at the end of the day, our prize is an early grave.”

The Rain Just Follows Me, produced by Grammy-winner Cameron Webb [Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Megadeth] out on September 10th via Pure Noise Records, is an 11-track assemblage that was written and recorded before the pandemic. This release follows their 2018 release Bad Frequencies but most notably their critically acclaimed Gold albums The Silence In Black And White [2004] and If Only You Were Lonely [2006]. These combined releases represent an exact replica of who Hawthorne Heights are as a band.
