Expert rock and hip-hop fuser Hyro the Hero has released his latest track, “Legendary,” a collaboration with metalcore royalty Atreyu’s frontman Brandon Saller. It’s also the lead single from Hyro’s forthcoming mixtape, KIDS AGAINST THE MONSTERS.
Synths frisk all around subdued strings, not preparing any listener for when the floodgates open, with pulsating guitars and drums so heavy and commanding that the world feels like it’s your creation you have complete control over. Hyro’s flow exudes confidence but not arrogance, reminding himself that despite the adversity that has come his way in high-tide waves, he has always managed to overcome it. Saller’s deep, commanding voice adds layers of depth to the already golden lyrics, further solidifying the argument to Hyro if he hadn’t already convinced himself. The track ends with Hyro screaming his self-worth which, next to those powerful sonic elements, could not be more energizing.
Of the track, Hyro shares: “‘Legendary’ is a look into the life and feeling of a champion. I wanted to express how it would feel in my mind to make such an impact on the world that you are considered a legend. I’m so happy that Atreyu was able to be a part of this song and that Brandon Saller lent his amazing vocals. They have been in the game for years and bring an actual legendary power and life to it. This is such an epic track and my goal is that it will inspire others to lean into their greatness.”
Alongside this single release, Hyro wrote a reflective letter that was published via Knotfest. While also revealing news of the incoming mixtape, he shared how the idea for it came to fruition. He explained that while mixtapes are crucial for a hip-hop artist, he will never let go of his love for rock, which will continue to be implanted in his projects. Knotfest will also soon release a set of interviews done with Hyro that feature a behind-the-scenes look into the mixtape as well as some special guests, including Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills and Chad Grey of Hellyeah.
This collaboration comes after Atreyu just released a music video for their track “Underrated.” The two artists have met before — both participating in Disrupt Festival last year — but never in this type of explosive capacity. Hopefully, there are more infectious collaborations where that came from.
