Lauren Sanderson does not play by the rules. The free-spirited songsmith is savvy in fusing together a brew of tenacious pop stylistics, high-strung hip hop equipped, and edgy R&B that places her in a league of her own. As a fully independent artist, the songstress has set free an assortment of songs throughout her musical upbringing from her debut full-length record Midwest Kids Can Make It Big, infectious alt-pop single “QUEEN BEE” and the first single of 2021, “Hi.”. Sanderson’s songbook now includes sprightly new love song “Girl From The Internet.”
“Girl From The Internet” is a modern-day love story. Antonymous of Romero and Juliet, the single is rule-breaking and commences with all the makings of a contemporary hit — in a deluge of acclaimed sonic classifications. A shy dose of bright effect penetrates the song’s elephantine low frequencies which are fastened by pulsative, compelling percussion. The LA-via-Indiana songwriter’s vocal offerings are depleted with a gritty atonement, cherried with a rasp. The audio apparatus remains steady throughout as contrasting verbal effects toy with a pitch diminishment about three-fourths of the way in. The single’s lyricism is soaked in the sincerity of falling in love with your internet flame. Lust is not bound by physicality anymore. Sanderson shares about the song, “I was falling and we hadn’t even met yet. That’s when you know you’re fucked. S/o to all the long-distance couples who are falling for strangers and s/o to the internet.”
The Fort Wayne, Indiana singer + songwriter assembled an online persona from YouTube that scored her Most Influential Up & Comer at the Indiana Social Media Summit. Shortly after, the bonafide troubadour did a Ted Talk at the mere age of nineteen. Sanderson is true to herself and doesn’t embellish her authenticity as she has been inspiring people since she was a teenager. She continues, “I want people to hear these songs, watch these videos, and think – I can be that. I can get tattoos, I can embrace my sexuality, I can say what I truly feel and be whoever I want to be. I see myself as a channel. When people feel my energy, or hear my lyrics, I want them to feel empowered and use that inspiration to create the life they want to live. To see someone who came from self-belief and know they can do the exact same for themselves. That’s all I really want.”
This fall, the genre-blending songstress is heading out on a slew of Sofar Sounds shows running through Austin, TX, Dallas, TX, Nashville, TN, and Indianapolis, IN. Soon after, she is joining pop star MAX [Warner Records] on a few dates of The Live In Colour Tour come fall.
