LOSERS lost in translation
Words By: Bre Offenberger

LOSERS — the brainchild of Eddy Temple-Morris, Tom Bellamy and Paul Mullen — have released their latest single, “Lost In Translation.” Already the dreamiest piece of music to come out this year, the track blends psychedelic-esque vocals, sultry guitars that soar as far as the stratosphere will let them and keys that keep building and never let up.

To say this track is a journey would be an understatement. The genre-bending band takes their label to heart with this track, fusing ethereal production with a story of feeling yourself slipping away yet doing everything you can to return and change the world forever. There seems to be someone who’s supposed to keep a close eye on the band, but Tom Bellamy is too busy changing the industry with his ascension-inducing vocals and his fellow bandmates’ awe-inspiring production to do what they’re told. By the third verse, the vocals have become more airy and slowed, letting the gorgeous synths engulf you with a flood of relaxation. At the end, Bellamy notices how brightly the sun is shining, signifying he’s closer than ever to getting his name included in textbooks everywhere. With a song as powerful as this, it’s safe to say he and the rest of LOSERS will be mentioned more than once.

Of the track, Bellamy shares: “Life can feel so lonely when we see other people and things as separate to ourselves, trying to escape from something that didn’t exist until we created it. It’s not until we step back and see ourselves as not separate to the world, but in union with it, in love with it, that we can really see beauty. It’s so important to remember to pause and not to dwell on the negative narratives we all tell ourselves.”

LOSERS formed in 2007 behind an acclaimed DJ in Temple-Morris, former member of The Cooper Temple Clause/multi-instrumentalist Bellamy and former member of Yourcodenameis:milo and The Automatic/guitarist and vocalist Mullen. They’ve released commended after commended albums, leading their music to be included in popular TV series Game of Thrones, among others, and one track became the official theme music for the BMX Championships at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Their last release, 2016’s How To Ruin Other People’s Futures, caused the band to go through a rebrand, fixing the kinks to now emerge with a different vibe completely. Though LOSERS has never released anything remotely bad, we can’t help but thank them for this gift of a track due to the band’s transformation. If you like anything from Pink Floyd to Tame Impala, you’ll like LOSERS even more.
