Alternative songstress, Luna Aura is a loose cannon, a firecracker, painfully unpredictable, and every other thing you aren’t supposed to be as a female in the music industry – and quite frankly my dear, she just doesn’t give a damn. This breakout artist is here to show us how to loosen up and make a splash as she gears up to drop her new EP THREE CHEERS FOR THE AMERICAN BEAUTY – due out October 2, 2020.
“HONEY” is Luna’s latest release that blends a mix is musical methods and influences from across the decades. With a sound reminiscent of the 90s and 2000s synth-pop hits like Nirvana’s “Lithium” and Blur’s “Song 2”, “HONEY” becomes a feminist, infectious hit using a reimagined beat. The foot-tapping and body moving track is the perfect anthem for a girl’s night out or any time you need to be reminded of what a badass you are. Speaking on the single Luna shares, “‘HONEY’ is about defiance and control. I think most of us have experience with people underestimating us, or making us feel small in order to make themselves feel bigger. This is a song about chewing those people up and spitting them out. Reminding them who you are.” In an Instagram post she added [in part], “This is my dog’s favorite song off the EP, she told me it makes her want to chew things up but she won’t [because] she’s a good girl…It’s about knowing your strength, using your voice and NOT PUTTING UP WITH ANYONE’S SHIT. Dedicated to all the nasty women out there.”
“Honey” joins Luna’s previously released singles, “CRASH DIVE” and “ENGLISH BOYS” off the upcoming EP. The three tracks read like the backing soundtrack to an indie film that features a couple of female vigilantes taking on the world to rid it of its misogyny, gender norms, and general bullshit. THREE CHEERS FOR THE AMERICAN BEAUTY is a concept EP that focuses heavily on female identity and its relationship with American culture. Along each song comes a short story that follows an anti-hero and her journey into self-realization and rebellion.
“HONEY” is just a chapter for this spitfire vixen’s upcoming EP – as you sink deeper into the darkness of the stories that too often hit home, you come out reborn, ready to take on the world and all its fuckery – leaving a path of necessary destruction in your wake.
