MkX Welcome to 2021As 2020 finally spluttered to an end, MkX’s “Welcome to 2021” kickstarted 2021 like a rocket. The single served as the perfect celebratory anthem to rid us of our frustrations from one of the hardest years yet. The dance track is the perfect way to ring in the new year and shake out all of the hardships from 2020.

“2020 is finally over,” MkX chants victoriously in the opening line of the track — whose electro-pop production will have you itching to get back into the clubs and dance floors that 2020 robbed us of. The track’s lyrics are incredibly relatable, with frustrations of loneliness channeled through clever puns about social distancing and other safety measures. The bridge repeats “Where’s the damn vaccine?” before finally culminating with MkX yelling: “Literally here’s my arm.  I wanna f*****g take it!”  The song’s timeliness and attention to detail is exactly the cathartic relief we need during these trying times, especially as 2021 is looking to be just as stressful as 2020. The track offers an escape into a pop soundscape where we can burn off some steam and work towards making 2021 better.

Of the track, MkX commented: “My goal was to create an electro-pop dopamine rush to brighten up the start of the new year. 2020 was super tough for a lot of people, so I wanted to make an upbeat track for everyone to celebrate the end of this crazy chapter,” shared MkX. “My main objective when I write and produce my music is to create songs that make people feel good and put some optimistic energy out into the universe. I’m super excited to see so many people resonating with the song and its message!”

It’s no surprise that MkX’s latest single is such a smash hit. Already an accomplished producer and songwriter, his work includes co-writing and producing tracks for the K-pop supergroup, TWICE — solidifying him as a certified platinum talent. Before launching his solo career, he toured with pop greats like Ariana Grande, Christina Perri, and Rixton before he enrolled in Berklee College of Music in Boston — one of the most prestigious music schools in the country. His sound represents his own varied and rich pop taste, and his experience within the industry is already paying off in his solo career.

The single has blown up on TikTok as its hard-hitting beat drops and relatable lyrics make it the perfect soundtrack for social media celebrations for the end of the year. Some of the biggest stars on the platform like Sway House’s Quinton Griggs, Addison Rae and Enzo Eli, and GKAY chose to ring in the new year using “Welcome to 2021” as the soundtrack for their outfit reveals and silly dance moves.

MkX is one of the most exciting and rising new acts in pop music. His aesthetic is a blend of CGI visuals from the 90s golden age of pop music and the hyper-pop sound of tomorrow. His maximalist approach to pop music features hard-hitting bass and bright, choppy synths that would make PC music pioneers A.G. Cook and Charli XCX proud, but his sound still has a great level of variation that displays his multi-genre influences. His recent collaboration with rap sensation Cupcakke titled “Down” along with his glossy pop single “Fall” have landed him at the top of Mediabase’s Top 40 Pop Charts and amassed over 5 million streams on Spotify.
