Never Loved On & On It Goes
Words By: Bre Offenberger

Alternative rock group Never Loved have released “On & On It Goes” — the lead single from Over It, their debut full-length album that will reach shelves on May 14 via Equal Vision Records.

The track begins with muffled electric guitars that sound like the intro to a hard rock anthem, but they shutter and give way for a delicate smattering of acoustic guitars and soft-to-the-touch synths. Once frontman Cameron Knopp makes his entrance, the guitars glide across his delicate pipes, and the synths simmer so that they only bubble in between verses. Finally, in the chorus, listeners’ initial suspicions ring true: the soundscape molds into a heavy guitar-driven spell of angst.

Knopp pleads to the skies for answers to why — no matter how hard he tries and how many times he has to overcome adversity — things never seem to be looking up. Once he frees his rage, the instrumentation cools back down again. He starts reviewing his frustrating time with his significant other, wondering since she continues to nit-pick him if they should call it quits. He becomes so aggravated by just thinking about how that conversation would pan out that he detonates into another fit of fury. In the end, the decision is left up in the air, though it seems from the pure image of him seething that he leaves behind they’ll most likely end up cutting ties.

Of the forthcoming album, Knopp shares: “It’s amazing to finally announce our debut album to the world. I remember sitting in the studio with Matt back in 2017 when we first recorded ‘Dead Inside’ thinking how amazing it would be to create a full length record with him and here we are. At that point in time it felt like a far fetched dream, we didn’t even have a band name then. To to be here now typing this out feels surreal and to be releasing this record on Equal Vision feels even more surreal. This album is a reminder to myself to never give up, to always work hard, and no matter what keep going. Anything is possible.”

Never Loved came to be when Knopp and and bassist Jay Gayoso decided they wanted to construct music that people can find relatability within. Guitarist Shane O’Brien soon joined in the mix before the band released their well-received self-titled EP. It’s just a matter of time before this band not only surpasses the expectations they set with their EP, but find their way to the top of the alternative rock charts.
