Art punk outfit Palaye Royale have released “Nightmares In Paradise,” a remix of their 2020 track “Nightmares.” The reimagining was created exclusively for the soundtrack for Paradise City, an Amazon Prime series that puts on display frontman Remington Leith’s vocals for the show’s protagonist, Johnny Faust.

The remix gets to the action faster. While “Nightmares” has a slow buildup, taking nearly a minute to detonate, “Nightmares In Paradise” cuts to the chase in under 10 seconds. Enraged guitars and drums pounce before quickly fading to a hush to make way for Leith’s crisp vocals, which detail how the evil thoughts that surface in his head during his rough patches have now become his reality. Despite the dark themes, the music is upbeat, with the guitars dragging his angst to the forefront — making him vulnerable but ready for what’s to come. Leith builds enough confidence to tell his demons he’s not scared anymore — and he’s ready to take them down.

Of the remix, Leith shares: “This was the actual original version of the song ‘Nightmares’ before we decided to take it in a different direction for The Bastards release. You can see where our heads were first at. This song is about trying to make the best of fighting off your demons and embracing the issues you have and wearing them on your sleeve.”

Paradise City premiered on March 25 and follows the story of The Relentless, a five-piece band made up of notable stars, including Andy Biersack as Faust, Bella Thorne as Lily Mayflower, Booboo Stewart as Vic Lakota and Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce and James Cassells as Leo Donovan and Dylan James, respectively.

Fans of Palaye Royale shouldn’t be surprised they’re being asked to do projects like this and receiving this type of acclaim. With three albums to date, the band has accumulated 294 million streams worldwide. Their latest, 2020’s The Bastards, led them to reach the top 20 of multiple Billboard charts for the first time. They’ve played alongside the likes of Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and Stone Sour, reaching about 700 shows in their career, and have earned spots at festivals all over the world. If none of their previous work was enough before, watch a single episode of Paradise City — you’ll inevitably want to watch more after — and see the magic they envelop for yourself.
