Indie-pop artist, Plaid Brixx, has excitedly released their new original song, “Live for Today,” now out on all streaming platforms. The track overflows with inspiration, in an optimistic vibe and hopeful lyrics. The encouraging anthem flaunts a calming but upbeat melody and spreads a cheerful message about the power of positivity. “Live for Today” is the first song Plaid Brixx has released in two years and shows growth in the evolution of his style – while also having roots in his personal struggle with addiction.
Speaking on the song, Brixx shared, “The lyrics are about taking life one day at a time and enjoying the little things. I’m a practitioner of yoga and it helps me stay grounded. And there’s nothing better than heading into nature to help reduce stress. The reason animals were included is because animals don’t really think about the future too much–many of them are incapable of doing so due to the way their brains function. Part of what makes us human and sets us apart from animals is that we are conscious beings, capable of thinking about a vast array of things. But the downside to our complex human predictive/analytical abilities is that many of us have a constant struggle to keep anxious thoughts at bay.”
“The idea behind ‘Live for Today’ is that if you think too hard about the past or future, you’ll get anxiety. But if you focus on doing your best today you will live in the present and be much happier. It’s a principle of Zen Buddhism that really struck a chord with me and actually helped me to recover from alcoholism,” he explains.
Plaid Brixx, born Chris Duggan, has been busy in the studio. The new original single follows on the heels of his most recent cover songs including, Post Malone’s “Sunflower” and Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” that have each amassed over 100K plays on Spotify. In 2013 he released his first album Magic Trixx under the musical persona, Plaid Brixx. Since then, he has released multiple EPs and singles which garnered over 3 million digital streams. Plaid Brixx has toured and performed in sold-out shows with We the Kings and Cute Is What We Aim For. One of his most popular songs, “The Greener Side,” was produced by Mike Molina of THE AGENCY [Jennifer Lopez, CL, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne].
Because he was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, it was extra special to find out he was chosen by Experience Columbus to be the exclusive local artist showcased in their new Live Forward campaign with “Live for Today” licensed to appear in their video and radio spots. Plaid Brixx continues to live and grow his music career in the city he grew up in and hopes that the Live Forward campaign will encourage young artists to not only visit Columbus but also to put down roots.
“Columbus has been hit hard in recent months and as the pandemic wears on, we know the community is feeling discouraged,” said Sarah Townes, Experience Columbus VP of marketing. “We also know that music can play a crucial role in helping people cope in times of high stress, so we’re excited to work with Chris on such an important project in hopes that others find inspiration and hope throughout these unprecedented times.”
