RellaWe all know that heartbreak is tough, but what better way to spill ones emotions and let it all out then writing a therapeutic anthem? Nashville based Folk-pop artist Rella has us feeling every ounce of emotion with her new single, “Maryland.”

Rella is known for using her music platform as a way to create songs that tell a story — an asset this 22 year old singer prominently shows off by taking her personal experience of heartbreak and turning it into a hopeful track. Since Rella’s debut back in 2019 with her single, “Intervention,” it became quite clear early on that she possessed the star-power to impress the masses. “Intervention” when on to be featured in the Amazon Prime film, The Last Christmas Party.

Since then, the singer has gone on to release 4 additional singles — the most recent being a collaboration with EDM artist Pineapple IslandThe two artists completed this project during quarantine, writing a song over zoom calls before perfecting the hit, “Not Over” — a single about the struggle of knowing that you’re still hung up on an old flame.

Right on the heels of the success of “Not Over”, Rella wasted little time before continuing to create music that speaks to many. “Maryland,” is a fun, playful pop-rock tune, flooded with a fresh, young voice. Hearing her sing in her newest single is like a breath of fresh air. What’s so special about, “Maryland,” is how honest Rella is in her lyrics. You can tell that she is putting it all out there — refusing to hold back anything from her fans. The true standout moment lives within the chorus, “If there’s even the tiniest chance you might love me again, I’d never repeat my mistakes.” In the song, Rella harps about the usage of various substances as a crutch to forget about personal problems and to simply feel better — the single art highlights this same theme as we see her sitting on the floor holding a phone surrounded by open bottles of liquor and pills. In the song she sings, “I’ve quit all my vices not strung out on pills and wine anymore / I used to wake up still drunk from the night before.”

Rella has so much to offer the folk-pop world and her single “Maryland,” is just the start. With the writing skills and talent that Rella has to offer, her fans can most definitely count on more catchy and playful tunes to come out in the future!
