For the last 10 years, Sleeping With Sirens have been supplying former and current scene kids alike with some of the most iconic hits. Collecting a trio of gold with songs, “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn”, “If You Can’t Hang”, and “Scene Two-Roger Rabbit” – Sleeping With Sirens has been amping up a generation of misfits. To celebrate a decade of creating, SWS announced on Friday that they would be releasing a deluxe version of their sixth studio album, How It Feels To Be Lost. The deluxe album is set to be released August 21 – nearly one year since the album’s original release – and will feature a bonus track in addition to three acoustics renditions of tracks off the record.
Friday, the guys unveiled that bonus track for all to listen, paired with a lyric video. “Talking To Myself” is already on its way to over 200k on YouTube – and for good reason. The track is quick with a build before breaking into a head-banging chorus. With a series of figures with odd objects for heads, the screen bursts with color splatter. Lined with their signature screams, “Talking To Myself” brings you to question where you are in your life. Social media allows people to paint their lives how they want – envy covered praise being the end goal. “For everybody doing good, yeah, I wish you well/I hope you never have to go through this hell/My head’s in a cage, I’m locked in a cell/I’m not talking shit, I’m just talking, talking to myself” – frontman, Kellin Quinn’s words pierce down deep. You can have it all, be successful to those around you, yet there is still a voice in the back of your head telling you that you’re failing. Many of us have had conversations with our inner voice(s), yet sometimes those conversations turn into arguments leaving us to question why we even bother. With depression and other mental illnesses that people live with becoming less of a taboo topic, songs like “Talking To Myself” bring to light the other side of things – the frustration of wanting to feel good about what you’ve been able to accomplish, yet your mind holds you back. This causes people to label you as angry or ungrateful when the reality is you’re most upset about the losing battle of trying to talk to yourself.
Since How It Feels To Be Lost’s original release, it has obtained a total of 40 million Spotify streams, 14 million YouTube views, and 68 million streams worldwide – with numbers like that, who knows what’s in store for this Deluxe version. Pre-orders are currently available and can be found linked below – with August right around the corner, at least we won’t have to wait too long to bump this record once more!
