The Veronicas may be best known for their tracks, “Untouched” and “4ever“, these musical beauties are so much more than just than a couple of songs dripping with sexual angst. Over the course of their career, they’ve garnered over hundreds of millions of views on their captivating videos. While The Veronicas may have started out as young budding pop-stars, they’ve blossomed into remarkable talents whose theatrical ways of insight have become somewhat of a staple amongst their releases – and “Biting My Tongue” seems to be no exception.
The trailer features a platinum blonde man taking a deep breath before banging on the door of a trailer where we are whisked away through a dizzying flash of anger, sex, passion and some obvious tension that will soon come to light before we are greeted with the blonde’s slightly edgier twin half. The beings featured in the trailer are seemingly a connection to the girls, creatures of dark and slightly less dark – two sides of the same wonderfully dramatic coin. “I can’t live without you” takes over the air space before changing to black letting fans know that this video is directed by the gorgeous minds of Lisa and Jessica Origliasso.
“Biting My Tongue” feels like the perfect blend of everything The Veronicas have ever released musically with an appropriate amount of growth, without feeling forced. The album’s debut single falls more in line with today’s pop releases in ways of tempo while harboring the duo’s signature lyrical delivery. Last year’s track, “Think Of Me“, held themes of getting over a passionate love and wanting to wipe the memories [but most importantly the hurt] clear of their minds – “Biting My Tongue” falls to the other side of the spectrum. The internal battle you have with yourself when you make the unknowingly empty promise of “I won’t fall for this one”. “I swore to myself/There ain’t no doubt/We’re keeping love out/I wasn’t strong enough/I didn’t see it coming at all” is cooed through the second verse – the inner fight of pleading with yourself not to fall as hard as is inevitable for fear of not being able to be put back together. “Biting My Tongue” fully embodies the raw emotions one feels when taking that next step in moving on – that next step too many want to avoid completely – new, unexpected love.
Last night, Lisa and Jessica performed their single live for the first time on Australia’s The Voice. Complimented by backup dancers with radiant beams of lights cascading over the twins as they completely dominated the stage. While the official release date for Human has yet to be revealed, you can stream “Biting My Tongue” now as we anxiously await the [obviously] brilliant official music video for the track.
