Violet Night have shared their latest single,
“(if) you are the ocean (then) i would like to drown.” The bass-heavy track brings all the intensity and romance in its sound and lyrics. The allure of getting lost in another person is like playing with fire – you know you shouldn’t, but sometimes you just get caught up in it all.
On the new song, vocalist, Connor Pohl, shares: “‘Ocean’ is a song about diving headfirst off the deep end into a romantic situation you haven’t fully considered the potential outcomes of. Sometimes people get wrapped up in the idea of who they think someone is, or who they want them to be, for better or worse.“
The track is off the band’s forthcoming sophomore album,
A N T I H E R O E S, set to be released on
September 25th. The nine-track project is much anticipated, and will further show off their unique style with elements of rock and a bit more of a pop edge. The song follows previous singles,
“freak me up”, originally released in August 2019, the late night love letter
“evergreen“, existential wonder of
“stay golden; we’re all the same in the dark”, to the driving rock beats of
“wallflower (none of this means anything)”and
“hate me”.
Hailing from Toronto, ON, Violet Night is vocalist/guitarist Connor Pohl, keyboardist T.J. Rounthwaite, and drummer Tay Ewart [Like Pacific, Modern Space].The alternative indie band is more than meets the eye. Violet Night doesn’t just play their instruments, they use them as tools to carefully construct emotion and a range of soundscapes. While they originally formed as a duo, spending their beginning years in rural British Columbia, they soon grew to be the talented trio we listen to now.
With their previous work such as debut LP Colours of You, Violet Night proved that they had a commitment to testing the laws of genre, and delivered a complex journey to introduce their sound. Of the project, Connor shared “Our hope, beyond being there for people, is to inspire them to create their own Colours Of You. Music is therapeutic for both of us. It’s carried us through the sunniest days and most violent storms of our lives.”
With a full U.S. tour and countless Canadian concerts under their belt, the band has proven that Violet Night’s charisma belongs on the stage just as much as their creativity belongs in the studio. With a world of opportunities ahead of them and an already growing fanbase and discography, the possibilities are endless for the trio.
