LISTEN: Wilderado Releases Their First New Single Of 2021

Wilderado Head Right
Words by: Ysabela De Ocampo

Indie rock trio, Wilderado share their first single for 2021. “Head Right” is an upbeat power track, giving us the first taste of the band’s upcoming debut album arriving later this year.

“Head Right” is a confident and boisterous slice of indie rock and roll. With its driving beats and soaring guitar melodies, Wilderado doesn’t hold back by any means for this release. The chorus is the most memorable aspect of the track. It shows off the band’s midwestern roots in the three-part harmonies and guitars singing along to the vocals. And the support of the non-stop drums splashing through the track make it an upbeat indie rock anthem. Produced by Angelo Petraglia [Kings of LeonPatty Griffin] and Chad Copelin [Sufjan StevensLANY] — “Head Right” follows their 2020 release “Take Some Time,” which saw remixes from alt-JRJD2Emancipator, and Kyle McEvoy & Ezzy.

Max Rainer tells the story of how the band wrote “Head Right.”Towards the end of 2018 and all throughout 2019 we were constantly on the road. In between tours I was flying to different places, meeting producers, working on songs and trying to figure out what it was we were going to do next… Somewhere in the spring of ’19 we were all in Nashville hanging out with a guy named Angelo talking about how sometimes the best way to ruin a song, life, or anything really, is to take it too seriously.”

The conversation rejuvenated inspiration for the band to write together for the first time in a long while. “We’re happy to share it with you now as it represents a turning point for us as a band, a return to the basics and the feeling of writing music while not caring about much at all.

Wilderado is comprised of Max Rainer [lead vocals, guitar], Justin Kila [drums] and Tyler Wimpee [vocals, guitar]. The three piece formed in California, but originally hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. With several EPs and singles released, the band has built a passionate fan base through years of consistent touring with the likes of Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McViePete YornJudah & the LionMt. Joy, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise. The band has taken main stage at festival performances for LollapaloozaBottleRock, and Austin City Limits. “Head Right” is the first taste of Wilderado’s debut album which is coming later this year.
