Alt-pop visionary Elliot Lee joins us for our next Live Session, Play Too Much @ SubCulture hosted by Brad Wagner! Catch the performance Tuesday, December 8th at 5pm ET on Twitch, Twitter, Facebook Live and YouTube Live!
A moody and edgy sound wrapped in bubblegum pink packaging — Elliot Lee is unhindered by musical norms. This Brooklyn-based artist is on a mission to normalize honesty and vulnerability. Having grown up in a nomadic lifestyle — she has found a sense of stability in music. This love for the craft fuels her ability to create music that is relatable and authentic. Inspired by Lana Del Ray and Twenty One Pilots, with a similar feel to Melanie Martinez, Elliot has excelled in the realm of alt-pop.
Her initial release came in 2017 and she immediately let listeners into her world with her brutally honest lyrics. She tackles several issues throughout her discography including depression and anxiety. Her ability to candidly speak about her experience severs as a message to her listeners that they are not alone in what they’re feeling. About her music style, Elliot said, “It feels so satisfying to wrap up uncomfortable messages in pretty, stomachable packages that make people want to dance and sing but also low-key cry about all of the sadness in the world at the same time.”
Over the course of this year, Elliot has dropped quite a few hits. Her most recent release is a moody, electronic cover of “My Favorite Things.” The eerie cover features her deep, rich vocals and a hard-hitting electric beat. She also gave us a stand-out EP, GoodBadUgly — featuring four unique tracks including the hard-hitting single “Pink (Freak).” A dark, edgy track about hiding the pain, “Pink (Freak)” does an outstanding job contrasting Elliot’s haunting music style with her bubbly exterior.
