Music has been at the forefront for Forest his whole life — beginning in upstate New York with his folk-loving parents. He began writing at six years old with Rory Block, learned the drums from Babatunde Olatunji, and played alongside Maya Rudolph in college. From starting out recording his first record in his bedroom to now being featured on MTV — Forest is living the musical dream. Heavily influenced by the time he spent in Spain — Forest allows the the culture to shine through in both his music and his artwork. His talents have brought him around the world on several tours alongside some major players in the industry. His last tour ended in 2019, bringing him home to California and giving way to his latest release.
2021 welcomes Forest’s 10th studio album Stubborn Breathing Heart — a collection of songs drafted over the course of 2020. Featuring Forest’s signature soul-nourishing lyrics, Stubborn Breathing Heart is a unique marriage of folk, reggae, gospel, and the blues. The record features Alex Budman’s [Mavis Staples, Elvis Costello, D’Angelo, Susan Tedeschi] horn work, drummer Rob Hooper [Seth Walker, Carolyn Wonderland, Hot Buttered Rum], and the beautiful vocals of Hannah Meyers [from Nashville’s The Bittersweets]. It’s effervescent — a true celebration of hope and love. “Creativity is a refuge for me in turbulent times,” Forest said, “Music and art have been good friends when I needed them.” This sentiment rings true with his new release — Stubborn Breathing Heart is an outpour of creativity and love.
Forest Sun is more than just a musician- his creative journey is astounding and his talent knows no bounds. From studio albums to visual art expositions, Forest Sun is a true creative artist.
