Following the release of their second EP, GOOD BISON are quickly starting to make a name for themselves. Their indie-rock style is settles among influences of surf rock, hip hop, and punk pop. With a similar vibe to The Front Bottoms, GOOD BISON succeeds at being beautifully chaotic. Tightly woven harmonies, a somewhat off-beat drum line, and wailing acoustic guitar come together to create a product that is symbolic of the chaos of thought.
Front-man Pablo Alvarez had made a name for himself long before the inception of GOOD BISON. He was well-known in Miami as an indie-rapper- at one point holding the record for longest consecutive freestyle rap. In 2016, he made the decision to create what he truly wanted to create- ignoring the boundaries of genre and going where inspiration took him. This led to the release of his first EP Buffalo Roots. His second release came in 2017 in the form of a hip-hop leaning mixtape. He released That’s Bohdi with the help of Jeremy Hawkins of JHawk Productions [The Rej3ctz’s “Cat Daddy“, “Jerkin’”]. 2019 steered him in a more indie-rock direction with the help of Mauri Viladegutt and Slightly Stoopid producer George Spits
Their latest EP, Scattered Storms, is a four-track EP that dialogues Alvarez’s experience with anxiety. The release features a balanced track list, all woven together by Alvarez’s vocals and his innate ability to make a melody his own. About the EP he said, “The lyrics to me are really about being patient and not letting yourself get overwhelmed with anxiety. Even if life isn’t exactly how you want it to be right now, there’s still plenty of time for things to change. But you also can’t be so caught up in getting to the finish line that you miss out on the ride.”
