Hailey has been known to release straight-from-the-journal type songs with an acoustic indie vibe. She’s seen a lot of success with her music since her official start in 2018. With the release of her first album The Hardwired Mixtape, Hailey caught the attention of both fans and popular musicians. She’s been on tour with both Charlie Puth and AJR, along with a performance with NBC’S TODAY.
However, her newest release is quite the departure from her usual tone. For her 2020 single, “a boy named pluto”, she traded in her acoustic guitar for soothing synth beats and her autobiographical lyrics for a story completely its own. The story follows a boy named Pluto and the girl he loves, Genevieve. The beautiful story and whimsical, claymation video accompanies the dreamy vocals perfectly. “a boy named pluto” pushed Hailey in a new direction, musically and beyond. She took on a co-producer role for this track in order to really shape the sound the way she wanted to. She said, “I love producing and feel like I’ve really grown as a producer. I love having the freedom to discover what I want and manipulate sounds I like, be more experimental and try new things. I hope to be involved more in producing my own stuff in the future.”
She hasn’t wandered too far from her roots. “a boy named pluto” is set to get an acoustic release this Friday which is sure to give a whole new vibe to Pluto and Genevieve’s story. Hailey created a work of art with “a boy named pluto” and hopefully we’ll see more incredible work like this in the future.
