JMSEY livestream
Words By: Jason Russo

Alt-pop artist JMSEY joins us for our next livestream, Play Too Much Live hosted by Jason Russo! Catch the performance Wednesday, May 28 at 3:30pm ET on Twitch, Twitter, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live!

JMSEY got his start as 1/6th of the indie stalwart group Hobo Johnson & The Lovemakers.  The group has headlined festivals and toured extensively with performances at Bonnaroo, Tiny Desk by NPR, and more. His solo project is an embrace of a more alt-pop sound which is represented in his latest single “Sunny Days.”  Inspired by the suddenness of lockdown which JMSEY was forced to experience just a month after moving to LA, the track is full of quarantine longing for better days. The self-produced track takes on a surf-rock vibe to reminisce on the days when spending the night with friends until sunrise was simple and easy.

JMSEY began his solo career with two live recordings of “Feelings” featuring The Philharmnick and “See You Again” featuring Hobo Johnson.  This inspired the release of “Landslide” and “Come With Me” which resulted in the release of his debut EP Moments.  His signature sound mixes nostalgia with forward-thinking production that creates the perfect summer sound.  His lyrics are both raw and real which gives each of his songs a relatable and vibey quality.  Comparisons to M.A.G.S. and NoMBe are certainly warranted as JMSEY’s sound is hard to pin to a single genre yet flourishes in a lane all its own.

“Cause lookin back, looking back, I could never say I missed all that, missed all that, Sometimes life it takes you by surprise, by surprise, On the fence, but I feel alive,” sings JMSEY on “Sunny Days.”

According to his website, “Jmsey enjoys making top ramen in the coffee maker. Music on rainy days. Lovemaking half the month with Hobo and the bois. Guarding the Northern Wall.”  This playful energy and positive spirit are channeled so well in his music and lyrics which makes his discography all the more addicting.  “Sunny Days” is the first of several releases slated for this summer.  Stay tuned for more from JMSEY!
