Johnny Chops Livestream
Words By: Jason Russo

Seasoned veteran of the blues, rockabilly, and country scene, Johnny Chops joins us for our next livestream, Play Too Much @ SubCulture hosted by Brad Wagner! Catch the performance Tuesday, February 23 at 2:30pm ET on TwitchTwitterFacebook Live and YouTube Live!

Johnny Chops is no stranger to the music scene, working for over 20 years as the bassist and songwriter for legendary country outfit The Randy Rogers Band.  During his tenure with the group, he performed live over 2000 times and released 8 studio albums and 2 live albums with the group through various independent and commercial labels.  He also previously released two solo projects, one in 2013 titled Sticks and Stones and another in 2018 titled Johnny Chops & The Razors.

Johnny began his music journey at the age of 16 when his uncle gave him a battered acoustic guitar which he performed and wrote many of his first songs with.  Music ran in his blood, with his father’s lengthy career as a choir director and music educator and his grandfather’s fiddle and guitar at-home entertainment certainly inspiring his foray into the music world.  That inspiration has now seen him develop into one of the most respected artists in the Texas music scene.  His songs seamlessly function as storytelling vignettes that also channel compelling melodies and excellent instrumentation.

He spent the majority of 2018 and 2019 on tour while simultaneously working on a massive collection of solo works temporarily postponed by the coronavirus pandemic.  Johnny and his wife Andy faced reality in October 2020 and released “Hope Is Contagious Too,” riffing on the language surrounding the pandemic while spreading a much needed message of hope for the world.  He rounded out 2020 with his second release of the year titled “My Own Piece of Heaven.”

Johnny is set to release two more singles and videos  in 2021, the first of which is slated for release at the end of February.  His personal blues and rockabilly style marries perfectly with his long time country career with the Randy Rogers Band.  Stay tuned for those new releases coming in 2021 from Johnny Chops!
