Folk rock duo Mare Wakefield & Nomad join us for our next livestream, Play Too Much Live hosted by Jason Russo! Catch the performance Wednesday, May 5th at 3:30pm ET on Twitch, Twitter, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live!
Mare Wakefield & Nomad have two of the most diverse backgrounds in the folk scene. Having moved eight times before her tenth birthday, Mare Wakefield credits her mother’s free spirit and her father’s religious calling to her largely widespread upbringing that opened her to the influence of largely different areas of the United States during her childhood. Nomad had a similarly diverse upbringing, growing up in Turkey and later attending the prestigious Istanbul Conservatory before continuing his education on scholarship to the Berklee College of Music. Now based in Nashville, this diversity is ever present in their music which guides listeners on a journey through throughout the world, from the deserts of Arizona to the canals of Amsterdam.
Mare Wakefield & Nomad released their first album together in 2014 titled Poet On The Moon. Featuring hits like “One More Breaking Heart” and “Lost and Found,” the album introduced the world to the powerful messages and beautiful harmonies of their newly united sound. This paved the way for their second studio album Time To Fly which was released in 2018 and featured tracks like “Real Big Love” and “I Will Not Be Broken.” Now slated for the release of their third album together, No Remedy will be released on May 21 along with a special livestream even from their home in Nashville where they will perform each song off of the project. No Remedy featured a long list of guest musicians whose illustrious careers feature collaborations with the likes of Beyoncé, Sturgill Simpson, and Jason Isbell to name a few.
Outside of music, Mare Wakefield & Nomad have a gorgeously reflective and inspirational blog on their website where they share personal thoughts and feelings from various moments during their lives up until the present. It’s a great way for fans to connect directly to the heart and soul of the group and truly see the inspiration behind their music.
Their first single “Give Myself To Love” was released in early 2021 and features a video of fans sharing their messages of joy and hope amidst one of the hardest and darkest moments of the Covid-19 pandemic. Their second single, “Almost Mine” only built on the heavy anticipation for the full project. Fans of Beth Snapp, Amanda Leggett, and Jess Locke will love Mare Wakefield & Nomad’s folk rock sound and wanderlust spirit. Stay tuned for more from Mare Wakefield & Nomad and be sure to check out our livestream where we’ll hear more about their musical inspirations, the release of the new album, and what’s coming next for the duo!
