Fans asked and MxPx listened – since the pandemic hit musicians have taken to social media to connect with their fans in these isolating times. During the months of April and May, frontman Mike Herrera would perform every Friday to liven up this desolate world. Playing a wide mix of their entire discography, Mike got the chance to connect to fans on a deeper level – touching on the history of some of his ink, wild tour antics, and of course life in quarantine as he battles against his #1 enemy, the slug.
With a solid set up to allow for gorgeous acoustics, it came as no surprise that fans soon demanded that MxPx release the tracks on streaming platforms. But there’s something about owning a physical copy of your favorite songs that just hits different – so with that MxPx have announced the release of Life In Quarantine on double vinyl and double CD. All the tracks you fell in love with again alone in your room or stuck at home with family are finally available for pre-order.
Mike went live on July 3 to hand down another live performance and an intimate Q&A with fans in between songs. During which he got to reminisce on the old times of performing at the Silverdale Community Center and the one fateful day he entered a skate competition with no game plan, revealed that the band will be releasing ‘something’ this month and of course mentioning how MxPx would be turning 28 that Monday!
Due to popular Mike had to play their May release, “Worries”, of which he said, “let this be a theme for 2020.” With fans filling the comment section with questions that need answers, Mike did his best to keep up with the fast paste scroll of the screen. Fans wasted no time in saying where they’d hope to see MxPx live for an in-person concert next to which Mike said, “We can’t wait to get back to tour in general. Obviously we have some challenges right now, that challenge being Covid-19 and the world, but yea, I’m optimistic about the future – feeling good about it. You know its a challenge, its a challenge to figure how to do life right now in 2020, how to do things you love when you can’t do some of things you love the most which is like go to shows. So I’m taking that as a challenge…..I’m treating it like a survivors expedition.”
It’s no question that quarantine has been tough for many and it may just get tougher as many states in the US are faced with having to go back to stay at home orders. But it’s always important to look at the silver lining of it all – while in-person shows may be out, fans get to watch their favorite artists perform live from the comfort of their homes. These lives may not be the most ‘ideal’ way to watch your favorite bands perform live but they do allow you to ask the questions you may have never have gotten an answer to in a normal setting. With that said don’t miss out on owning your copy of Life In Quarantine on double vinyl or CD – plus you get the option to have it signed by Mike Herrera himself!
