The Spice Girls really are forever. Everyone’s favorite girl gang is back, and will be re-releasing their 2000 album Forever for the first time on vinyl on November 20, 2020 via UMC. Originally released back in November 2000, the vinyl will feature a gatefold sleeve, four collectable art prints and artwork specially re-created for this vinyl release – the ultimate collectable for any Spice Girls fan.
Forever was the Spice Girls’ final studio album that – of course – quickly went platinum. The iconic album featured tracks like the transitional 90s to early 2000s “Holler”, a true pop gem, and the ever emotional ballad, “Let Love Lead The Way”. Of course we can’t forget, “Right Back At Ya” and “Get Down With Me”, that bring all the pop/ R&B vibes with their lifting beats and vocals – with the first described by co-author Elliot Kennedy, as “plodding, boring, bottom-of-the-drawer R&B,” and the latter produced by Rodney Jerkins, featuring his signature distorted call-and-response styled vocals, the tracks are two of their lesser appreciated but underdog tracks nonetheless.
“Time Goes By” slows it down and brings all the feels as their vocals rise above – and suddenly, its 2001, you’re back in your high school gym with crimped hair, slow dancing in your school gym… only to switch it up and dance with your best friends to the upbeat and groovy “If You Wanna Have Some Fun” right after. Produced by the great Jam and Lewis, the track brings a much needed bounce and rhythm to the compilation. They close the album off with the fitting “Goodbye,” a more mature take on their R&B tinged sound, which went on to be a No.1 hit.
Last year, the Spice Girls reunited for a headline tour across the UK and Ireland. The band was (almost) back together, with Melanie C (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) reunited, with just Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) missing from the equation.
According to sources, “The Spice Girls were hoping to hit the road in 2021 to mark their big anniversary but now it’s not possible because of the pandemic. They’re all in touch weekly and are trying to come up with new ideas on how they can do something special to mark the big day. Mel C suggested doing something around ‘Wannabe’ – including the idea of possibly re-working the video for social media. There are so many options and nothing is off-limits. They want to give the fans something special.”
The Spice Girls are still the highest selling female group of all time, with their 1996 debut album Spice selling over 31 million copies worldwide. Here’s to hoping for a little more spice in our lives sometime soon!
