In March 2017, it was disclosed that American rock band Yellowcard would be coming to an end. Notwithstanding, frontman William Ryan Key had no intention of retiring. His next few years were compiled of introspection and personal development to discover his true sense of purpose. Key then reappeared as an alter ego to the Yellowcard frontman persona he once held.
Key released a slew of hand-crafted EPs riddled with mirror images after departing from the band and got his feet wet as a new public singer + songwriter. Thirteen, featuring singles “Vultures” and title track “Thirty Days,” was released in 2018, then followed the highly acclaimed EP Virtue, containing songs, “The Bowery” and title track “Virtue.”
Now, a stream of new music is expected to flow as the singer announces his partnership with the renowned platform Twitch to do just that.
Twitch, one of the world’s best live streaming platforms for gamers and creatives composed of a community of millions of people, has joined hands with the ex-Yellowcard member to, “unveil new music, refashion fan favorites and important songs from their catalog, and interact and communicate directly with his viewers.” Key has launched his first introductory episode with many more to come each and every day and isn’t shy about his enthusiasm for the upcoming projects. He shares, “I am beyond excited about this partnership with Twitch,” he explains. “The last year has been such a challenge for so many musicians, and I myself have been searching for what my next opportunity might be for quite some time. I am honored that Twitch has considered me to be a part of their push to expand the music side of the platform. I think this is just the beginning of a long creative relationship that fans can be really happy about.”
These live streams will see Key write and record new original music for a multitude of new projects in real-time while getting to interact with viewers all in one. One of these new projects is Jedha and enlists the help of former bandmate Ryan Mendez. The two will fuse a sonic makeup a neo-classical foundation and electronic balances. It’s a strictly instrumental project that has been in the works for the past few years now. The two will be presenting their creations for all to view.
A special collection of reimagined Yellowcard songs will be released in 2022.
