SHOW REVIEW: Frank Iero And The Future Violents Visit NYC In Style With A Concert Cruise

Bringing all their favorite tracks to the water with a matinee show by Rocks Off Concert Cruise

On June 22 Frank Iero and the Future Violents visited NYC in style with a matinee concert cruise. Over a hundred of the biggest Frank Iero fans made their way onto a riverboat for Rocks Off Concert Cruise – making this one of the most intimate shows featured on the tour.

Despite the crowd’s small size, you never would have guess by the sheer volume of their voices – reverberating off the walls in the tiny sea cabin. With only 3 hours out on the water the pressure was on to create an unforgettable afternoon. This incredible 21 song setlist featured a healthy mix of tunes from …The Future Violents, …The Patiences and of course …andthe cellabration. Wasting zero time with hellos and jumping right into a new track, “Moto Pop“, off their latest album Barriers. Barriers has received a world wind of positive reviews from fans and critics alike. From a noticeable improvement on vocal stylings to an aesthetics change – a little less monsters and ghouls and little more inner demons verse vibrant color – this album is evident that the work Frank Iero and the Future Violents put out is not just ‘something to do for the moment’ – this is a passion, this is artistry, this is Frank Iero and the next chapter. Barriers even featured a easter egg for all the My Chemical Romance fans – the in song “Young and Doomed” we hear “..and I promise I’m not okay… oh wait, that was the other guy“.

As Frank and the Future Violents bounced between tracks off Barriers and Parachutes, fans grew anxious as they waited to hear  “This Song is a Curse” off Disney’s Frankenweenie Unleashed Album – and before we knew it we had reached Frank’s favorite part of the show – “Right now we are gonna play a cover song [written] by my favorite person in the world – Lily“. For those in the dark, back in 2014 Frank announced a super special collaboration with his twin daughters [3 at the time], Lily and Cherry. Together they created “B.F.F. – Best Friends Forever (But Not Now)” – written by Frank and Lily and features all three of them on vocals. All the proceeds from that recording went directly into Lily, Cherry and Mile’s respected college funds – so if you pirate music, especially this song, you’re trash.

The intimate setting may have made crowd surfing impossible but never underestimate the power of emo kids as a massive circle pit began to take over the room as the echoes of lyrics being screamed back at the stage radiated throughout the cabin. With the show quickly approaching docking time, Frank took a minute to get real with the crowd, “Being an artist is a hard fucking thing…..the world wants you to give up but don’t..keep that fire lit”. Also telling fans that you have to have thin skin to be an artist, use that pain and hurt to create something meaningful – something people would want to have.

Frank Iero and The Future Violents closed out the afternoon with a 4 track encore that consisted of, “World Destroyer“, “A New Day Is Coming“, “Fever Dream“, “Weighted” and in a fitting scene “Oceans“.

Barriers is available everywhere you stream and download music – don’t miss Frank Iero and The Future Violents as they make their way over seas for a number of dates before heading back home to play, not only headlining shows, but also a few of festivals including the Great South Bay Music Festival and the iconic Vans Warped Tour 25 Year Celebration.
