Electro-folk pop duo Sylvan Esso, consisting of North Carolina natives Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn, found success in 2014 with their smash album Sylvan Esso.
The release of “Die Young” is the third track on Sylvan Esso’s highly anticipated upcoming album, What Now, that is set to drop on April 28th. The shimmery single reassures and excites fans that What Now will follow in Sylvan Esso’s footsteps.
Meath’s soulful voice sings lyrics such as “I was gonna die young / Now I gotta wait for you, hun,” and, “I had it all planned out before you met me / I had a plan, you ruined it completely,” while Sanborn drops bright and bouncy synth beats. The tender yet haunting song is ultimately about how love can alter even the most concrete life plans. The vibe created by the song’s fresh and easy going beat tempers the effect of the intense and soul-searching lyrics.
Both Meath and Sanborn star in the new single’s music video. Their youthful performance is very Thelma & Louis-esque, with Meath belting her lyrics as she speeds away in a spontaneously stolen cop car.
Sylvan Esso will be on world-wide tour March through August. Catch them in Brooklyn May 18th and 19th. The full US tour dates can be found below:
